Edgar Davids
So, my wife and son head up to our cottage - 300km north of Toronto - to see how the dear old cabin has survived the savage Canadian winter. (Quite well, thankfully)
We have a decent library of books in there (all the Flashman books, stacks of the sexy Photo magazines from France in the 80s-90s) and her ladyship says "Can I bring you back a book or two to read while we're in isolation mode?"
I reply: "An Elmore Leonard book (charming, humorous crime capers) or something science fiction". (thinking she'd bring back some of the brilliant, imaginative short story anthologies from Omni Magazine).
She brings back Leonard's Out of Sight which features the hero being locked up in the trunk of a car with an attractive police detective (played in the move by George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez). Don't really need to read about being locked up even if it is with a sexy-arsed babe.
And the hardly uplifting Day Of The Triffids.
I know. Hardly suffering. But it's all about expectation and delivery.
More gin, please.
