Coronavirus

Then the elected govt needs to pass a law and have parliament agree on it, giving voters the opportunity to vote them out in 4-5 years if they disagree with their actions.

When this has been bought up in the past, it has proven to be a firm vote loser.

If these circumstances are anything more than a bad memory in 4-5 years, we'll all be in a lot of trouble.

Don't really want to be in the same gang as Stalin and Hitler.
Thanks Godwin. I'm sure we can find all kinds of examples of people that fit into any group without having any relevance to the nature of the group itself. I could suggest that we can't possibly side with anyone who has a first name beginning with A because Hitler's did.

I know it must feel uncomfortable to be left behind in that sense, but improvement is a good thing - we stand still we die.

Hanrooster: £13.4bn NHS debt to be written off

Health Secretary Matt Hanrooster says £13.4bn of historic debt held by NHS trusts is going to be written off.

He says this will put the service in a "stronger position" to fight the coronavirus, and for its long-term future.

He also says new guidance on the protective equipment for NHS staff published today is "amongst the highest in the world".

Amazing what can be done when you have to, rather than letting selfish ideology drive decision making.

Yip. Who would have thought it - the magic money tree did exist all along.

This virus has done in two weeks what 50 years worth of Labour politicians couldn’t get anywhere near.

Or maybe the test kits that didn't exist and are now available for purchase.

The govt can't buy what doesn't exist and can't tie businesses into contracts they can't fulfill

Nope - look at the proportion of sociopaths in the most successful people around. Once the shackles of wasted time and thoughts such as empathy are shed, one is free to pursue excellence without hinderance.
I think that's true to some extent. To me that's part of the problem and not the solution.

There are countless examples of how that has hurt and killed innocent children, people, caused havoc to the environment, caused massive economic problems. If we are to get anywhere with climate change, if we're going to move to a more just and better world more of this sort of thing is not what's needed.

Or as Christopher Hitchens put it (I believe speaking about Ayn Rand): “I have always found it quaint, and rather touching, that there is a movement in the US that thinks Americans are not yet selfish enough.”

You see, I quite like Americans as they are (except for rednecks, fatties and their penchant for picking gameshow hosts as presidents). I wouldn't call it selfishness in most, I'd call it a natural trend to self-sufficiency.

yep, every week apparently

Ironically, the last time I spent this much time thinking about nurses it was one of them giving me the clap.
Didn't know what the noise was at first - it sounded like someone was having a really enthusiastic fap outside the house

some idiot near us set of fireworks, woke up all the babies in the area and set all the dogs off

one of neighbours was ringing a bell, so I got another round in

I think you misunderstood me. I was referring to the fact that the government has written off £13 billion worth of loans to NHS trusts today and is paying a good proportion of the nation’s wages. In two weeks we’ve gone from free market economy to socialism, and all under a Tory government. Boris keeps on like this and he’ll get a statue in Red Square.

What does that tell you about Labour politicians?

Lots of them have been brick.

Don’t get why it is weekly, kind of takes away from last week. Should have kept it as a one off.

I suppose the fact that the NHS staff will be fighting this - and
putting their lives in danger on a daily basis - for six months minimum may have played its part in a decision to keep showing support.
