Circus ManUnitus - Nobody's At The Wheel

Former Holland striker Youri Mulder suggests Manchester United are “fed up” with Memphis Depay after the winger’s mixed start this season.

Much was expected of Depay after the 21-year-old joined the club in a £25million transfer from PSV Eindhoven, but the Dutchman has only shone in patches.

Last month former Netherlands midfielder Wiliem van Hanegem branded the youngster “lazy” in a bizarre comparison to James Bond villain Goldfinger.

Mulder is the latest to criticise Depay’s attitude, after Holland failed to qualify for Euro 2016 with a 3-2 defeat to 10-man Czech Republic on Tuesday.

“He played one good match for United, against Club Brugge. In the Premier League he suffers, yet his attitude suggests that he is a big star.” said the former Schalke striker.

“It seems that people at Manchester United are starting to get fed up with this.”

Former Nottingham Forest striker Pierre van Hooijdonk also slammed Depay, who failed to step up for the Netherlands in the absence of Arjen Robben.

“The stats of Memphis do not weigh up against his attitude off the pitch. He hasn’t been the player that Oranje needed, especially when Robben was unavailable.”

When we were "linked" with him, I got slated on another forum when I said he was a luxury, primadonna player that we don't need. He's in the same mold as Giovanni, Taarabt. Loads of talent, but lack of effort. It was the same when he played in Holland, but he could get away with it there. Seems I was right

I think that it would be wise to wait a little longer before declaring that you were right. Players can take a while to settle and even if it does not work out for him at United, it might somewhere else.

Well, the things I mentioned has nothing to do with settling in, but with personality. That rarely changes much. He is exactly like he was at PSV. Nothings changed.

I'm not sure that is true. Struggling to adjust to the pace of the league and his team mates could account for it. I'm not saying that you are wrong, I've just seen loads of bold statements over the years that have turned out to be rubbish. Half the players that get written off on here go on to have their best ever season the following year.

Not sure that is true, I know plenty of 21 years old kids have a change of personality as they mature. I am not saying he will but its far too soon to write a 21 yo old player off. ( imo).

I'm not writing him off, but he has for quite some time shown all the signs of being a Taarabt type of player. Ferguson would have probably got him on the right track, but I'm not sure LVG is the right kind of manager to steer him in the right direction.

Come on City- not only do I not like LVG but can't have the goonies running off with title.

Why I don't like Pellegrini, real opportunity to go after United, put a marker down for season ... chose the safe route, 3 mostly defensive players in midfield ..

To be fair, that's the most defensive Pellegrini has probably played in his life in the PL. He was probably hypnotized the day before by the club's shamen (on the sly) to even consider that set-up
