Christian Eriksen

11 goals (17 if you count the national team) and 12 assists this season. (7/10 in the PL). Hazard has 13/5 in the PL and none in LC/FA cup

And Chelsea are so reliant on Hazard which is again why he is being praised where as we have son, Alli, Erisken and of course Kane contributing

I would argue quite strongly that Dele Alli would be a huge, massive loss to us and is in all reality the one player right now we have no replacement/reserve for.

He would be a huge loss yes. He ties the team together. A talisman too. But for me Kane and especially Eriksen are so core to us. Isco might provide cover, but I don't think we have another who can cover him at the moment. Same with Kane. Janssen is a different player as is Son. I think Alli could be covered by Eriksen, Son, Lamela, though none completely replace what he brings - maybe Lamela would be the closest, he has some of the aggression and drive. So in short, long term I think we would miss Kane and Eriksen the most. Without Eriksen, I don't think we'd have drawn let alone won against the Swans.

Ultimately, what is impressive with this side, is they are a strong team unit. Alli complements Eriksen. Dembele complements Eriksen etc etc. all are integral when they play.

Sorry mate but i would have to disagree with you this time, Alli would be a loss but Eriksen would be more so ( imo) because we have nothing in our squad that gives us what he does. I have seen us play without him this season and we are just not the same team without him.

Eriksen's late goal against Swansea illustrates for me why this is largely a facile argument. Eriksen could not have scored that goal without Dele's brilliantly-crafted pass. Likewise by getting into intelligent positions Dele is always fashioning a conduit for Eriksen's creativity.

Both players bring exceptional qualities to the team and would be a huge miss were they to be out for any length of time.

Not a argument mate just my opinion.:)

Surprised to hear Hoddle last night on BT Sport saying that we should be looking to replace Eriksen as he doesn't influence the big games enough if we want to win a league.

While he gets a bit of stick, in the last year or so he's scored the winner up at City, scored a screamer at Chelsea, set up Alli's two at the Lane v Chelsea and had a hand in Son's equaliser against City.

I know at times he seems a bit soft but I'd have him in my team all day long.

Edit: Didn't he also set up Alli's opener v Man U at WHL last year and Kane's equaliser against the Bindippers at Anfield. Seems to me that Hoddle is indulging in lazy stereotyping.

His form was patchy earlier in the season, but his displays since he signed his contract have improved enormously. I still want us to buy a quality cover/competition for his role as principal playmaker though. Also, someone who can take better corners and free kicks ;)

PS thanks for giving us the biggest laugh yesterday. His air shot near the end was comic genius :)

I thought Vertonghen steaming up the pitch on that run and then completely losing his brick was a bit funnier. ;)

What about a cheeky bid for Lanzini as cover?

Did you notice that only one of our six corners yesterday was to the near post? The others were either short, long or Sheringham/Anderton style along the ground to set up someone like Dier for a shot from the edge of the box.

Also Kane took one of the FKs and nearly scored with a screamer.

I think that you can see something similar across much of the team i think it is down to this group of players maturing together and Poch having us hit form at the business end of the season.

Lanzini is good player but can't see him challenging for the bench let alone the first team for his position. One Lamela is back in think we have choices but it doesn't harm in looking.

I don't know why we think we deserve to have the perfect player. We don't pay the fee or the wages. We have to allow for players that are just below the absolute elite.

We have been very lucky in recent years with modric bale Ali etc they are genuine talent and would be well out of our range of we were to buy them today

The whole midfield was poor at the start of the season, mainly in my view because they were still implementing tweaks from the pre season. Once they settled they've been very impressive.

Several of the squad seemed a tad jaded following last summer's international tournament. Probably didn't help that England fared so poorly.

Hoddle was probably ( imo) the best player to wear our shirt and should have got far more then the 50 odd caps he got for England, i loved to watch him play and even got to the grounds early to see him in the warm ups and (imo) was the most talented English player ever.

However ( and i have mentioned this on here before) as a pundit he talks a lot of brick and i hate listening to him.

Eriksen has been mustard since December but I kind of see where he's coming from. If he can influence the Chelsea game and we go on to lift the FA cup then that should go some way to proving the likes of Hoddle wrong.

Maybe I live in a fantasy land but I'd like to see us sign a real top drawer creative player either someone experienced or an up an coming youngster to challenge Eriksen, not just a signing to be bench fodder like Nkoudou or Sissoko.

Those two are in a completely differen mould, I would say.

But anyhow, a challenger to Eriksen will cost so much that we can only afford one signing this summer, and he will be complicated to find or convinced to join us.

We've proved in the past with the likes of Modric, VdV, Bale and Dele that we are capable of unearthing huge talents for relatively small beer. So there's always a chance we can pull it off again, but it's never easy and there's just as much chance we'll fall short again like we did with Janssen and Sissoko.

So who knows?
