Christian Eriksen

Very good post and sums it up, i have never seen a player who does not have ( so called ) faults in his game and we have a team full of them ( like all other teams do). But for some reason the (so called) faults that Eriksen has is brought up all the time. Makes no sense to me at all.

it's not in isolation, Hugo's kicking, Son & Kane's profligacy, Wanyama's wayward passing, Walker's hospital balls, Vert's happily letting the ball bounce, Dier's control, they all get moaned about in every match thread too

and thats just by me

But i do no hear the same kind of moaning about them then i/we hear about Eriksen being a pussy. Match threads are usually full of keyboard warriors and armchair managers ( some who have probably never kicked a ball in anger).

I think the levels average out equally over the season

the echo of strawman "doesn't tackle though does he eh ha ha ha" posts are the most common eriksen comment at the minute

I am sure you have copyrighted the word " strawman" seeing the number of times you use it. And the levels do not average out at all ( imo).

It's pretty rare to see Eriksen slide tackling. But I could say the same for Kane... Both of them still get interceptions, though, which are products of our high-pressing.

Lamela, on the other hand, is a player that doesn't mind getting dirty and I would say is far more effective at applying the press, then releasing a quick ball for our counter-attack.

Honestly, I think they all can complement each other with different styles, as long as they're all on the same page. However, Eriksen as an attacking player has been quite prolific for us as the stats showed to other similar players in his position. As long as he's contributing to our attacking play in a meaningful way (as he tends to), I think it's okay for him to shy away from being a more physical player. There's no doubt that his workrate is simply phenomenal since he tends to run the most out of all our players.

Let me say it like this: I took my Dad to the Gent and Stoke game. He does not follow Spurs, but is just a fan of football that has been watching football for 60 years, so he's completely unbiased. During the Stoke game he said to me;
"Christan Eriksen is some player! He's about as good as it gets. Hope you can keep him at the club, because he's something special"
I thought he was immense in Thursday's Gent match, at least in open play. Everything seemed to go through him, and it was only thanks to some dreadful shooting (and playing with 10 men) that we ended up crashing out of the Europa.

Free kicks and corners were another story, however. Those were some of the worst corners I've ever seen, and we've had more than our fair share as Spurs fans. Still, it's not fair to blame Eriksen entirely for something that Pochettino's clearly instructed.

By no means a comment on your dad, but that's how I ended up following spurs. My dad had a football fan for 40 years and seen the great spurs great early 60s team and said it was the best football he'd ever seen.
Turns out it was the only football he ever got right .

I saw him do the crossbar challenge on SpursTV there a season or two back and he hit the crossbar 12 times out of 15, or something like that. Very very accurate.
However in a game it's the pace and spin he tries to impart on the ball which mostly causes it to dip prematurely hitting the first man or wall. I'm sure if he wanted he could float or ping a flat ball in every time but that would be meat and drink to a big defender. You need to get some whip on it and that's where it gets tricky. In saying that he should be doing better with his delivery.

It was more the laughable short corners that I was thinking about, but fair comment.

Like the last couple of pages in this thread. The sarcy comments have been by far the most prevalent. I haven't made a negative about him in recent match threads, because, as I stated above he has been a bit better recently in not being a pussy.

Naughty Parklane. as you are the worst for being sarcy and bringing criticisms of Eriksen's lack of physicality up. As you well know.

I was interested by the comment from the Exeter player that Eriksen told him he had grown up watching Exeter City in Denmark and was a massive fan. Given that lower league football gets practically zero tv exposure over here I was surprised to learn that it would have featured abroad.
