Can't see anyone getting him that cheaply.
It's not primarily price but payment conditions; European transfers tend to split the fee over five years but Premier League teams often insist on one lump payment

How about £20m + we chuck in Adebayor for free and pay half his wages for the first year? We know Sherwood likes him - might even think he can get him back to his best...Can't see anyone getting him that cheaply.

Agree and disagree.Benteke would just become another Ade. Mentally weak and only plays for a new contract
Anthony Martial for half the price sounds a much better plan
I'd take that switch ...
I love the way you make up something and from then on report it as fact.Benteke would just become another Ade. Mentally weak and only plays for a new contract

I probably agree with your second comment however - although wouldn't Martial play from the left?.... thus effectively taking Chadli's role in the team? If so then we could go with Kane or Benteke as our centre forward (with Kane also being able to drop into the number 10 role) and Martial on the left, but able to fill in as the number 9 if Kane and Benteke aren't fit or are rested or suspended. That would be the perfect front 3 in terms of options.
However if I were going for this option I would rather we went for Kane, Charlie Austin and Martial. Austin's transfer fee will be half of Benteke's, his wages will be lower, he is homegrown and he is very similar to Kane in his style of play.
could even be a quarter........Benteke at 32 mill, Austin at a potential 8-10 mill due to being in the last year of his contract with heavily in debt and relegated QPR. Bargain!
About his current value. Much closer than the silly money Villa keep talking about. Some internet chaff this morning about us lodging a £20mil bid for Benteke.

I don't think we'd be over paying (or under paying for that matter) if we got him for that much. Still rather we bought a backup for Kane and spent the money elsewhere.Would absolutely love it ( with a nod to Kevin Keegan) if we got him for anything like that!

If ( and I appreciate that it is a big if) we are persuing him hard, then surely he must be one that Poch really wants.
On that basis, should DL back Poch to the hilt? - even if it means paying somewhat over the odds to land him.
Same argument as for MS.
If we want Poch to succeed, as I am sure we all do, then we must give him the tools HE wants.
I don't see any evidence that we are pursuing him or even have any interest in him. Even if we have an interest in him, I doubt that he is the only striker we are looking at and he would have to offer considerably more than the other targets (and considerably improve the first team) in order to consider paying over our valuation for him. Given that we already have a striker who is better than him on our books, that seems pretty unlikely.
But would you support a bid for him if that is what Poch wants?
I'd take that switch ...
But if I were Villa I would not touch Ade with a barge poll, after one good season we all know what will happen
