Everytime they "simplify" the handball rule it seems to get more complicated.

An alternative would be to make every hand ball an offence punishable by an indirect free kick. That would reduce the impact of the decision. Indirect free kicks in the penalty area could be fun. Blatant handballs like an outfield player saving a shot would still be penalities.

Either go back to it needing to be intentional, or just make any contact with the hand a foul.

"Intentional" is subjective though. You can't see what's going on in a player's head. It'll lead to inconsistency.

Any contact being a penalty is also not the solution. See Eric Dier v Saudi Sportswashing Machine.

Not sure what the answer is. Not sure there is a perfect one. I'd be happy with the refs making a call on it being intentional or not but that'll have the conspiracy theorists out and referees getting pilloried every week for lack of consistency.

That was too close for comfort, thought they were going to anti-football their way to the trophy. Haven't celebrated a miss/loss like that for a long time, if at all. Basking in all their bitterness and sore loser videos, the world feels that bit better today!

I was in the local and the cheer that went up when Arsenal missed surprised me. I just assumed a fair portion of them were Arsenal fans, but it turned out almost everyone was cheering for PSG.

You get consistency but you'll get some daft decisions too like the Dier one or the handball against Lucas Moura when he was shoved to the ground against Sheffield United (which wasn't a penalty but was one of the most ridiculous decisions I've ever seen on a pitch). I'm just mentioning those two as they involved us...I'm sure other clubs have their own versions.

[Finney Is Back]

Had a gig last night and we setup up during the extra time and penalties. A club full of Arsenal fans.

Anyway the inevitable happened and they lost. So the TVs are turned to silent and one of the Arsenal fans goes to the jukebox and puts The Angel (North London Forever) on and the entire place is singing it. Then it came on a second time. I bet it was loaded on 5 times.

I just casually went to the bar and asked them to mute their music so my band could do our sound check. That got the obvious reaction from the club. Told the sound engineer to put our PA on and straight into Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur on my own. The chairman of the club (mate of mine, Spurs fan) was killing himself.

You can't miss these opportunities in life right?
