Champions League 25/26

Playing more defensively after getting an early lead is understandable, but playing too defensively is counter-productive. Give away possession quickly and the opposition get more chances. Stop attacking totally and there is no chance of a lucky second goal, while the opposition can safely push forward more.

They didn't need much more, but the negativity meant they had to be perfect defensively. Also substituting most of the potential goal-scorers means using defenders in the penalties.

Arteta has spent about the same amount annually, on average, as Guardiola for one FA Cup and 1 Premier League in 6 years vs 1 CL, 6 EPL, 3 FA Cups and 5 League Cups in 10 years, plus a UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Liverpool also gak’d all their players up on PEDs.

Amazing that in the decade or so that they have been allegedly doing this no evidence has ever leaked into reality, despite disgruntled players and staff leaving the club.

The Merseyside Mafia must have a far reach with their omerta .....

5Bn over x number of years, the current City side isnt worth 5bn.

But Arsenal couldn’t scheme for that, they had to come up with a way of finishing ahead of a team who could buy anyone they want, the most likely way to do that is by playing the percentages on everything, being defensive, using the dark arts, cheating.

That is the only way a club like Arsenal (and us) can win the league against the financial and chemical dopers.

We should copy them, it’s the only way we’ll win the league.

Course but for 1bn I expect abit more attacking intent. They aint playing City every week but are playing like they are even at home versus Wolves.

Sound was off where I was watching it but I assumed he blew because of the time Woolwich were taking to actually take the corner?

If so, good on him. They get away with too much of that brick in the league.
That seemed to be the case yes, because he did give the corner. I saw it somewhere that he said or gestured for it to be taken quickly, and blew when that didn't happen.

Then 2 or 3 minutes into the second half, aleady knowing they had p*ssed off the ref, they are again timewasting and get a yellow for it.

I hope all the PGMOL refs were watching and taking note.

I'm less clear why he didn't give the penalty against Saka for the double handball - not 100% sure on the rule but was it because it came off his foot first? (General question, not to you specifically)

Yes, the reasoning was it came off his foot and hit his right hand, rather than directly hitting his hand in an unnatural position. However, subsequent contact with the left hand helped him control the ball. The latter would lead to a disallowed goal at the other end, even if inadvertent.

Bizarrely, that might mean that if his long clearance had gone in the goal then it would count as a handball and it would have been called back for a penalty.

They really need to simplify the handball rule.

Either go back to it needing to be intentional, or just make any contact with the hand a foul.
