Don't get me wrong, I far prefer real cars.

But at the momentz the only cars that suit my needs are a Rapide (done that), the GTC4Lusso (out of my price range for a couple of years) and the Taycan.

It's comfortably the worst of the 3 but within my range of needs.
 
Currently charging up waiting at Gatwick for someone.

Im getting 50mpg in the hybrid. Most of my city driving is on electric.

What is surprising is the range increase in summer. Sure you expect better battery life when warmer but it’s maybe 2 or 3 times better. From north London to Gatwick only used half the battery this evening. The same journey a couple of months ago I was out of volts and onto petrol half way to Gatwick. When it was really cold I got 5-10 miles of range on battery alone. Now can get 30+

Charging has been a lot better. Handy lamppost chargers close to home.

I went to the first one at Sywell and it was excellent - this one looks even better.

Saw one of these on the road in grey yesterday (a motoring journalist crashed the one in the photo!) I wish I liked the look of them a tiny bit more as I love the premis. An Alpine A110 GT. It’s about the only new everyday usable sports car that’s properly light weight. Because it weighs only 1100kgs it can do 40mpg, has beautiful handling, floating over the road, and can rest atop a barbed wire fence! I like them but something about the look I find a little tacky. Too much like a Mazda, toy-car-like…or an up to date homage to the original 70s Alpine? I will probably scratch this itch one day as I so enjoy bobbing along in light weight machines. Has a totally different dynamic to todays big heavy cars.

Sorry I know its cars, but could not see another thread for Motorbikes but been looking for one myself recently. Got my eye on this Ariel, its either that or a classic Triumph

I think a cheap, lightweight toy that isn't a Lotus is probably the wrong choice.

Lotus is the right comparison. I believe the Alpine is lighter and more everyday usable than Lotus equivalents. Easy car to live with, could even give it to the misses to drive - no hassle at all. Or can put it in track mode and thrash it for a unique driving experience. And unlike most modern cars you can get closer to the limit with it as it has a relatively small engine and clever gear ratios that are usable on the road (unlike Porsches where you need a track to rev them out).

But…it’s only available in automatic. And something about the larger front light makes me think of a Mazda. The original 70s alpine had two round lights. I looked at the original Alpine about 10 years ago when they were relatively cheap, but didn’t buy one, got a 70s 911 instead.

I have always been a bike man and had several over the years ( mostly Harleys) but i used to ride with a guy who had the Ariel square Four. It could pull a car.
