The hybrid Panamera also uses both engines to elevate the torque over the petrol only Panamera. Clever stuff. The electric and petrol engines combine to give increased performance if you need it. Otherwise you're using green energy. Got to admit its the way forward. Everyone wins. Only issue is the weight of the batteries.

It is a driver's car, you don't buy it to luxuriate in (that would be the s63). The Alfa's ride is surprising however, for a car with such performance it's smooth and good for long journeys. But I agree. Red leather inserts lift the cabin, and that actually is the one must-have option for me (only a £300 option when new). I like smaller cars, for the time being it is a positive living in the city.

Not sure what I'll end up with. Bit of an identity question. The Panamera felt a bit old and giving up. The Alfa a little boy racer and similar to my current daily. The Panamera was an effort to go (semi) electric, but I'd have had to charge it on the street. I will likely scratch the Alfa itch, as NL01 says it's practical: fair boot, 4 doors, relatively normal suspension...but can also be huge amounts of fun. It has a dialled in feeling that you get from a Ferrari, but with real-world usability. As you know its engine, chassis, steering etc are setup by ferrai's engineers.

Can't wait to do some proper trips. @NoLimits01 did you have to re-booked your continental trip?
Yep, I pushed it back to Oct but I have a feeling I might have to move it again to next spring:(

The braking feel also suffers when using regenerative storage.

I've never tried trail braking in a hybrid but I have driven a couple and I wouldn't want to be relying on it into a corner.

Does anyone have a trade BCA account?

I have to park my main car on the street in London, so I don't mind a car with a few nicks and scratches. If they aren't any they will sadly be added by my neighbours. So I may as well buy an auction car with a few imperfections. But the auctions are closed for the public at the moment, only trade can bid. Could approach a local second car salesman or reach out to someone who's signed up...

Btw hired a Panamera. Only had a couple of hundred miles on the clock - a new car. Only time it really felt good was at illegal speeds when it felt quite agile and planted. Enjoyed it but is too heavy and too big. Lovely cabin etc.

Anyone go to Supercar Fest yesterday? Quite an event, got to see some lovely cars there.

Interesting culture/generation gap opening up between the old school car fans and the Instagram types. The former were willingly taking part in flooring it off the line and getting some seriously high speeds on the runway, the latter cruised past slowly (getting booed) as if we were all there for them and not their cars.

Also very glad I sold my Maserati when I did. Half of them there had wraps/aftermarket wheels/tinted windows on them. One even had scissor doors fitted. Shameful behaviour.

Unlike the first Panameras, this version is a good looking thing. The first version looked like a slug [emoji23]

Despite the badge and turbos it’s not a sporty car really. It has more of a luxury limo feel but with a bit of poke. Driving it just reinforced that I like lighter smaller cars. Unless I was doing lots of motorway miles. Its ideal for illegal motorway speeds where it’s weight keeps it planted, but it’s still dynamic. It actually started to come alive at high speeds.

Did you see anything you fancied?

Almost everything there is only useful as a second car.

I'd be tempted to ditch the kids at a boarding school so I could get a 720S though - that's an incredible machine.

Had a good long chat with a club member who has a DB11. I think in a few years when my youngest is a little older he could fit in the back.

The DBX is a thing of beauty. Photos do not do it justice, but I can't bring myself to own an SUV - I'm not that old yet.

The DBX is my car with an Aston badge, fastest suv this side of the Lambo now it has the full 600bhp (0-60 low 3’s)

My one now has to go and I’m seriously undecided what to go for next.

The list is very eclectic at the moment

Polestar2
Ford Mustang e-mach
Audi RS4
E63s
Tesla Y

Whatever I end with has to be sprightly and big enough to get the dog in the back

What's your car?

Good choice.

Having stood next to but not been inside one, I'd say the DBX is closer in size to a GLE though, isn't it?

Could be, I’m remembering (maybe incorrectly) a comment on top gear saying it was based on the GLC but according to Aston they used the new lagonda platform but with the AMG engine and info system[emoji2371]

Stay clear of the Polestar then. It's cramped inside and the boot is small. It's also short range and the charging takes ages compared to other electric vehicles.

Maybe the Audi, and the old model? Does the one before the current RS4 have a nicer design? Very subjective. Can't go wrong with the merc but think I would go for the Audi myself. Just an amazing allrounder. If you are going Electric it is worth getting in a Tesla just for the charging network. They probably have 5 years on the completion and being able to stop at a service station, plugin, grab a coffee and go after 20 mins, it just makes the car a far more easy thing to live with. There is the Panamera Turismo in both hybrid and full electric. It is extremely comfortable. I wanted to like it and get a second-hand one, but where I live it's too big, lack of chargers, and not for me at the moment.

Aston are using AMG power and Mercedes info but there's no way they'd be using the base of someone else's car.

Whilst they've always dug around in parts bins (my cruise control buttons are from a Mondeo) they've never been a company that just rebadges.

Sorry mean the new AML platform they will be using for the new Lagonda

Just also seen that it’s built in Wales and for that reason (and the £160k+ price tag) I’m out

Good shout on the Porsche, just looked at the new Taycan Turismo as well

It's well worth being cautious of new plants with manufacturers of this size.

The price point seems right. It starts the same as the Urus but once they're specced up it's a lot cheaper.

I'd never buy something like that new though - the depreciation is shocking.
