I think that sums up my view on the subject. Nothing compares to the thrill of watching Spurs, but why should that stop me from watching and enjoying other matches from around the world? After the emotional roller-coaster of watching a Spurs match it's actually a nice break to watch a match as a neutral purely for the entertainment and enjoyment of seeing a good game of football.
Do I care in an emotional way who wins eventually Serie A, or La Liga, or the Bundesliga? Not really. Sometimes I'll think "Oh, such and such team has some great players to watch, I hope they win that league," but not much beyond that. Why should that stop me watching and appreciating the skill and excitement of matches from those leagues though, or stop me being interested in seeing who comes out on top in a tight title race? I can't see any logical reason.
Quick example from the weekend: I have no real interest in the Dutch league, I have no idea who is top, who is doing well, etc.. I was flicking through the channels to see what was on and saw Feyenoord vs Ajax just starting on ESPN, I know it's a big rivalry, so I decided to watch. Saw a great game, top atmosphere, six goals. Should I have ignored that match just because I support Spurs? I have no love for either side, didn't really care who won, but I could appreciate two teams going at it and enjoyed seeing an entertaining game of football. Nothing more, nothing less.

Just to add - it also improves you general knowledge and understanding of tha game as opposed to the standard 'is this player from FM?' ignorant comment that gets thrown around here more often than not.
There is great football played in many places around the world. And there are great players outside the PL which make watching the beautiful game a great experience

I would never and haven't to this point, say you shouldn't watch - that would be stupid, a good game to watch is a good game to watch, and I love football played well. But I wouldn't be committed to watching the game, I would do other things, read etc - because there would be no intensity for me.
Oh and I watch enough football as it is, I actually have a life to live as well. A constant and unremitting diet just turns me off, I'd rather be a gourmet than a gourmand.

As a non-English Spurs supporter, I'd be thrilled if the club could somehow be magically switched to the Bundesliga, which is just by far a better fan experience. You can stand, the supporters aren't treated like criminals, you can have a beer and a great German wurst while watching the match and the teams are more evenly matched with generally more entertaining matches, in my opinion, than the Premier League. There's a reason that the Bundesliga is the second most attended sporting league in the world (behind the NFL, which just dwarfs all other sports leagues).
I don't have a particular club I support, which means I don't follow the league as closely as the English or Russian Premier Leagues, but that doesn't mean I can't objectively look at it and see what makes it a very good league.

That's true, you haven't said anything about individual matches, fair enough. I wouldn't be committed to anything other than a Spurs match either. I'll watch Spurs to the bitter end no matter what's happening, but if I watch, say, Juventus vs Milan and it turns out to be a crap match I'll turn it off and do something else. I have a saturation point with football as well, I've got plenty of other things to fit in to my life other than random matches than don't involves Spurs.
What I have found though is that I hardly watch any Premier League matches beyond Spurs these days. Probably because I see all the PL teams every week when I'm watching Spurs, so when I'm not watching Spurs I prefer something different (especially as it's now so easy to watch overseas matches). That, and because I'm familiar with PL teams, I hate half the players on the pitch so I have less desire to see them
I do disagree though when, in response to Murmon saying the German league was his favourite to watch, you said:

I think it's very possible to support Spurs, but see enough matches from a different league to think that said league is more exciting to watch in general than the Premier League. I honestly don't see what one has got to do with the other. If someone is a huge Barnet fan, but acknowledge that Spurs play better football and that the Premier League is more exciting than League Two, does that mean they should stop supporting Barnet and become a Spurs fan? After all, why support a team in a less exciting league?
If someone said that they were a Spurs fan, but they'd watch a match in a different league instead of a Spurs match because they thought the other league was more exciting, then I'd definitely say they shouldn't be supporting Spurs. In fact I'd think they were nuts!

Its my point of view, like yours is your POV, I'm not criticising it, just disagreeing. The EPL is the most exciting league, because it has Spurs in it, and that for me is the be all, and end all of the issue. It is also interesting and exciting to watch other matches , particularly the top end teams, to compare and contrast against THFC, and try to ascertain whether we will beat them or not.
I think the biggest issue is what would a league made up of the best Bundesliga and EPL teams look like, and my guess is that it would probably be something like 14 English and 6 German, and that is based on revenue streams and ability to buy the best players.

Vadimivich - whilst I agree that the treatment and service to German fans is far better, thats hardly an issue for an armchair fan is it?

). Didn't notice that you were differentiating between excitement and entertainment.I suppose to be precise I would say that I personally could find aspects of another league more exciting, not just more entertaining, than the Premier League.
You say you couldn't find another league more exciting because you have no support, loyalty or commitment for a team in that league. In the same way, because I support Spurs, when we aren't involved in a certain aspect of the Premier League then I don't give much of a brick about the outcome. If we're not in the title race I don't care that much who wins it. If we're not fighting relegation, I don't care too much who goes down.
So if Emirates Marketing Project were twenty points clear at the top, but over in Italy there were three teams who were all in the running right up to the end, I would definitely be saying that I found the Italian title race more exciting that season.
Although, of course, none of it would be as exciting as what Spurs were doing! Even if we were 12th and 10 points clear of 13th and 10 points behind 11th, I'd still be more excited about how close we could get to 11th than anything else \o/
Anyway, as you say, just two different points of view, neither wrong or right. Interesting subject to think about though.

I think EJG has pretty much summed up my feelings towards football as a whole. Spurs are my team no matter what and would NEVER watch another match over a Spurs match... Goes without saying. If i can get down to the Lane I will but only really get to go 5 or 6 times a, season due to my shift pattern at work. So most of my football is confined to TV or online.
The reason i started this thread was to point out how tight the title race was in Germany in comparrison to the other big leagues in Europe, including the EPL. This doesn't mean i think it's a better league tho by no means. Just interesting and refreshing to see a league where it's anyones game. I said i follow FC Schalke and this is purely down to my 3 yrs spent in germany with the forces, we all picked a team. Most lads picked Beliefeld, Hannover or Dortmund as they were the most local teams. I picked FC Schalke for 2 resons; 1 because id been close to their ground during the 06 WC to watch England V Portugal and 2 because after a drunken sing along with a load of their fans on a train to Dortmund after they beat Dortmund, one of them gave me a scarf and i nearly got my head kicked in at the station by a group of less than happy Dortmund fans... The policeman protecting us from them advised me to throw away the scarf and get out of dodge. Next day i bought a new one and decided that was my german team
I haven't actually watched much Bundesliga since leaving germany but i do check the league table from time to time and it's nice to see Schalke doing as well as Spurs both sitting 3rd

I loved watching the games when I was out in BAOR, great fans and lively atmosphere at all of the games I went to.
GHod I used to miss being home and getting to see Spurs though, particularly as Hoddle was in his prime

I missed being home watching Spurs as i was one of very few Spurs fans on camp due to the majority of the army being made up of Northerners and Jocks lol. So i do appreciate being home now, little over an hours drive from the Lane and living in a town (albeit a brick one) that has a pretty big Spurs following

There are a lot of talents that can be gotten at reasonable fees. Spurs need to pay more attention to Bundesliga markets. It still ****es me off that they let Mandzukic get away despite scouting him extensively when he was at Wolfsburg. ](*,) Both he and Wolfsburg were willing to negotiate and the Kicker magazine was reporting that the deal was very possible, for whatever the reason, the Spurs management decided not to go for him.
