Brennan Johnson

Yesterday Porro put in whipped, curled crosses from deep.
Even when facing a defender up close, he knocked the ball 90 degrees to his right, and then dug out a curling cross around the defender, much like Beckham used to do.

When Murphy was facing Spence for the second goal, he shaped like he was going to cross 'beyond' Spence's lunge but then cut the ball back through Spence's legs for Isak to score.

When facing a defender, Johnson does neither, he either hits a very vanilla ball straight into the defender, or knocks the ball 5 yards in front of himself and then strikes a vanilla ball into the defender.

He really needs to learn one or both of these options.

I fully agree that Johnson has to develop to be a regular starter for a team wanting to be where we want to be. But I also think that will take time.

He's struggling more now as we're struggling more as a team. That makes sense for the kind of player he is. He's not a "do it on your own" type player, yet at least.

I can agree with that he is still fairly young at 23. Lets hope he can push on.

Plus needs to learn how to press effectively and work defensively. He has improved slightly but he needs to do more. As it stands, if he doesn’t score then does he do enough for the team? With our tactical setup it requires all players press effectively if we are to be successful.

I think it's close to impossible to judge if players are improving or not when a lot of them are playing a lot, probably feeling fatigued and we're struggling as a team.

As things have been so far I don't think he does enough for the team if he doesn't score.
