Big Summer Clearout?

Not direct enough?

Thats crazy

Ok let me claify.

In this league it's power and the ability to find th right goalscoring positions over that playmaker role every day of the week. You can play sexy football, pass the ball with the inside and outside of your foot, do everything that a playmaker does but that goalscoring mid with great positional sense can be the difference between a loss and draw, draw or win or even loss and win.

Chelski over the years had countless games where they were playing poor but had a Lampard type player to bail them out.

------------------Mekelele----------------------

-----------Essien----------Lampard------------

A dm, a combatitive cm, and a goalscring cm. No sign of a playmaker but their brute force won them loads of games.

Sigurddson 100%. He can pass, can shoot, can go past players, is strong in the air, is great at finding space and getting himself in good goalscoring positions, excellent set piece delivery, tall and strong and above all else seems to have the right atitude. It was you that stated he was a Lampard mark two which i thought was a brilliant comparison.

Yes we can play direct with Luka but the 'xavi role is overrated in this league imo. You don't need it. Chelski didn't have it for years and were still winning silverware galore. In La Liga ok, in seria A fine but in this league its not vital.

i see your point about not needing the xavi role in this league as a necessity. especially in a 4 man midfield. but i have to be honest i think modric can pretty much do anything you ask him to do except that lampard sigurdsson type job

i dont know about this sigurdsson guy to be honest, great numbers and such but how can you be as confident as you are about a guy from germany thats come to lower level prem clubs on loan?

the reason i'm not going to really debate about the guy with you intensely is primarily because i know next to dingdong about him (career wise and watching him regularly etc)...plus i still need to recover from the whole nile ranger vs wellbeck fiasco (how a man can be sooo wrong on so many levels is incomprehensible ) so i'm willing to give in that you might know what you are talking about

i would only ask that you consider the fact that your boy is playing in a 5 man midfield? i dont know how he would cope as part of a two man midfield? he'd need to do more holding and tracking and zonal marshalling then he is used to at swansea..., he wouldnt be getting into the box as much etc etc etc etc

Yep i don't want to see us play anything else tbh mate. Either 4-4-1-1 or 4-3-3 with 3 cm's. 4-4-2 can do one.

I saw Sigurddson play for Reading a few times and he actually stood out evn then but i didn't see any of his time in Germany tbh. I have a strong feeling about him, very strong feeling. I think you're right about Luka playing other roles though but you know i wanted him gone last season so maybe that's clouding my judgement?

First and foremost we need to know who the manager is going to be, if it's someone new he needs time to assess what he has, what he needs and what he can lose. That's not going to be done overnight. Needs time.

Defence
King: Time to go.
Nelson: Out of contract anyway(?) so goes.
Rose: Not good enough for Spurs. Goes.

Gallas: Gets a season extension if he wants it, no sale value, so why get rid?

In come Caulker and Naughton. Caulker has had a great season at Swansea and Naughton a great one at Norwich. Naughton has played right back, left back and even centre back for Norwich this year, perfect cover for both full backs. Having Naughton there also gives us the option of pushing Walker further forward if Lennon is missing.

At centre back we have Caulker, Kaboul, Dawson and Gallas to choose from. Bring another in if there's value in the market, got to be quality though.

Centre Midfield

Modric, Bale, Parker, Sandro and Huddlestone: All stay if we can hold onto them. We need to be confident that Hudds is coming back.

Niko/Jenas/Bentley/Gio: Should already be gone!

We need to be able to rest players especially Modric, we expect far too much from him. He's running on empty and it's killing us. Carroll I think will fill that role, but not ready yet.

Potential to bring one in, someone that can score a freekick and deliver a decent corner would get us an extra 15 points a season!

Wide players
Cover for wide players essential, expecting the players that get brought down the most to stay fit is ridiculous! Townsend back or look to buy?

Attack - We've created more than enough chances to have scored double the goals we have, the forward line is the biggest issue we have, as it has been for over two years.

Defoe: Stays! He's our top scorer despite only playing a few games.

VDV: Quality, stays.

Saha: Shouldn't have signed him, goes.

Adebayour: Can't see us matching his wages, but sign him if it's a sensible fee. Don't think it will be.

So that leaves a gap for one possibly two forwards. Berbs is an option, Sir Alex said he'd be sold a few weeks ago, he'd do at least as good a job as Ade for probably half the money.

Kane has begun to score regularly, time for another look?

So in summary that's King, Nelson, Rose, Niko, Jenas, Bentley, Gio & Saha out.

A few back from successful loan spells, and a few new faces.

Same here. He was excellent for Reading, kept seeing his name every week with a goal or hearing him having set up a couple. Watched him a couple of times and could tell then he was much better than the championship. Summer of 2010 Hoffenheim came in and bid quite a bit so Reading were never going to keep him.

He would be an excellent signing for us. 23 years old, can grow into the side. Being Scandanavian means you are never going to have much of a problem with him adapting to the physical side or pace of this league. Hoffenheim want to sell, he fell out with the manager during last season so it would be at a buyer's rate.

It would be a very clever buy imo......a few on here disagree but I think he showed in the game against us that he is a pretty useful player.

I can see someone like Saudi Sportswashing Machine buying him and the trio of Sigurdsson, Tiote and Cabaye being a formidable unit.

I've seen people say this and tbh i don't know why as they're completley different players.

In what way exactly? Position? Role? Style of play?

How would you fit both of them together in a team?

For me Sigurdsson plays as the most attacking out of 3 central midfielders for Swansea in a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3/4-4-1-1 type formation. This is also the position VdV is at his best in, although I have seen VdV do well in other positions as well.

Completely different players who occupy a similar role in the team, albeit in differing ways - wouldnt fit into the side as they would want the same space

One starts from a deep position and goes forward and the other one starts from a more advanced position and drops deep. It would work perfectly imo and we'd actually have a runner from the centre that will bomb forward and create space when vdv has dropped deep to pick up the ball.

Why would anyone sell Khumalo now when he's set to have his breakout season next year alongside Vidic?
