Think your right , think it was Archie Gray who said what a great influence Ben was.
 
LB - Udogie, Souza, Robertson, Davies with Spence and VDV capable of playing there as well
CB - Romero, VDV, Dragusin, Danso, Senesi, JVH, Vuscovic, Phillips, Takai with Davies and Gray both capable of covering as there as well

How about if we assume that Romero, Dragusin and Phillips are sold and Souza, Takai and possibly Voskovic are sent out on loan?

That could be logical, but it assumes you will take the prices offered because you have put yourself in a position where you won't be able to register all the players.

The assumption would be - Sell Romero, Dragusin, Phillips, Davies (it's quite possible we think we could get 2-5M for him and that's why we did extension)

Seems a lot of work to do

Imagine the LOLs if all 17 of our non-HG players are LBs and CBs, and we aren't able to register any offensive players at all.
 
I don't see that we'd give Ben a new contract in order to sell him!! The contract extension seems a strange use of money to me, but all that matters is that we start the season with a decent replacement for "Mr Red Card" Romero.
 
I do not have a problem whatsoever with him being given a new contract, from what i hear he is good/liked in the dressing room and is a proper leader. Said when we were tracking Robertson i would hope Davies would stay.
 
Also think its important to know what his contract is, low wages and the promise of furthering his non-playing career at Spurs is very different to normal/high wages and the promise of a starting position (I know he wouldn’t be a starter, its just for comparison purposes)
 
Given that it’s been said that De Zerbi had said that only 12 of our players were good enough to stay beyond this season. That’s a huge compliment to Davies that he’s one of the 12. I’m kinda surprised as I figured Robertson had arrived to replace Davies.

Don’t get me wrong. I think Davies is a great professional and always does his best for us. He has served us well over the years. I just question how he’s one of only 12 that De Zerbi wants to keep given that sadly Davies best days are likely behind him.
 
In his final interview of the season this is what RDZ said shown below , think he may have changed his mind from an earlier statement about only 10/11/12 players being good enough or whatever he said. Think it's pretty certain Ben will be starting very few PL matches , he is just back up and maybe RDZ wants him as CB cover not LB plus Ben is a left footer who are a minority in PL squads.

"I'm sure we have not to change too many players. It's not right. It's not right because we are lucky to have a lot of good players, a lot of good guys."

There's probably a touch of Tuchels about Davies staying...squad dynamics and all that. De Zerbi likes good guys...I'd guess that means they have heart, listen, and are intelligent.
