Ben Davies

Hope we find a place for him even if his minutes become fewer (and he's happy to stick around) seems like a proper Club man who gets the responsibilities beyond match day
Get him over to Swansea as a player coach, let him learn the ropes, then bring him back here to succeed Poch in 2031

I've felt for a while that indirectly he contributes to a drop off in performance from the team when he plays. People end up out of position trying to compensate for his positioning or lack of pace.

I love the bloke and he's been a loyal servant, but he's not a premier league centrehalf now.

He should be given a testimonial and then go and finish his career with Wrexham. He'd become a legend there and likely help them massively.
I am nostradamus.

It's funny how quick we are to say no longer good enough so get out. Then when a player wants out he is a clam for showing no loyalty. Not accusing you of calling anyone a clam by the way
I agree with this, that's why I never get upset when a player feels like it's their time to move on, because it definitely swings both ways. Players aren't loyal but neither are clubs.

Just to clarify, it is not a matter of telling him to get out, but rather he has come to the end of his contract and this would be a good point for him to move on.

i am glad he is gone we need to up our quality in depth and have everyone challenging for first team places - the top 5 is even harder now with Saudi Sportswashing Machine and villa in it. we need to catch up quickly.

That shirt is nigh on perfect, just needs a blue/black sponsor or ideally no sponsor at all.
Best of luck Ben, been a great servant.

Now begins the long summer of people making declarations based on rumours.

Unless I've missed something, he's not gone yet mate. But I'll share your well wishes once something has actually happened, we might yet still take up the year option. It's easier to follow things on here if we wait for confirmation before we talk about things like they've actually happened.

LB is an interesting one, Destiny hopefully has the position locked down whilst Spence is a good option. Not sure what kind of profile player we'll get in, Mitchell from Palace looks a good option who will get games but also probably isn't going to be a first choice unless we have injuries. Even Reggie got minutes tbf....

Davies has been rated by every manager he has played under, he's had a great career and you can’t help but feel the bloke will also make a big impact once he's hung his boots up.

@Glenda's Legs Beat me to it! It's a bit of a gripe of mine (without meaning to have a go at the regular offenders!)

It feels right to me that Ben leaves this summer.

We now have Romero, VDV, Danso and Dragusin as 4 main centre halves. We then have Ash Phillips who has completed his 2 years under our registration and can be in the UEFA squad (B-list) alongside Gray (A-list) as another genuine option. Clearly either Davies or Vuskovic would have to take an A-list space that might not be available after the conclusion of the transfer window.

At left back, in effect we have Reggie and Davies salary to more than cover a new purchase. With CL revenues, I think it opens the door to make an acquisition who might only be registered for the PL squad to start with. Spence / VDV / Gray can cover until Xmas.

Are you sure about Phillips? I thought loans didn’t count towards the two years for B list.

UEFA says ‘A player may be registered on List B if he is born on, or after, 1 January 2003 [for 24/25 season] and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday by the time he is registered with UEFA – or for a total of three consecutive years with a maximum of one loan period to a club from the same association for a period not longer than one year.’

lol - this stuff ties me in knots.

Is "registered with UEFA" a general term or does it mean we would have had to name him in competitive UEFA squads e.g. EL? That would be impossible as we weren't in Europe last season. How did we register anyone?

There is also an OR condition in that statement so "maximum of one loan" may not even apply.

I'm also thinking about Devine when I look at this statement.

UEFA are about as useful as a chocolate teapot in their use of the English language.
