Ben Davies

Was ok tonight - definitely did some good things but defensively got caught out a bit and I am sorry but If rose loses his place to this guy at this time then something is wrong.

100% a great prospect to be our number one left black but talk of replacing Rose is very premature (of course 80% of Spurs fans will
Disagree)

Why do you say the bolded bit? What is it about their respective games that makes you say that?

This back four we have had has by far looked the most settled. I'd keep it unless something goes severly wrong. Apart from Walker coming in for Chiriches.

Racialist.

Wish that Verthongen got caught out as much as Davies apparently did.... in that case we would be talking about a narrow 1-0 loss (or maybe something better)...

Defensively got caught out a bit? Away to the best team in the league that's hardly damning... I know we've seen worse from Rose this season up against some good teams. Remember the City game for example? (arguably the closest comparison to Chelsea away.)

I really have been impressed with Davies. Rose was good too this season. But I think Davies hasn't deserved to be dropped now. Meaning Rose will have to bide his time.

I agree with this.

Rose was playing well but through no fault of his own (injury) his position has been taken - Davies is playing well and deserves a run

Rose fooled everyone, including me. "He's improved so much" before realising an improved rose is still ****. Positionally tragic, offers nothing in attack other than crosses one inch above the ground. He's young, may improve. But nowhere near good enough.

If you take away Everton, his performances have been largely poor/average. The fact that Rose is very much unliked by our fans means that one good game and all the Rose haters come out and say Davies ****s on Rose and is better in every aspect blah blah.

So far this season he has looked vulnerable on the turn, has looked slow and has been beaten a lot by wingers. Add this to the fact that he has been at fault for some goals I don't think he has looked consistently up to it. People love to label Rose a liability but I haven't seen him be skinned as much as Davies has this year and I think

Davies is a better all-round player and may well go onto be our left back over the years. If he has a few more Everton like performances in the coming week then sure let him keep his place, but right now Rose would deserve to come back in if fully fit. I see people talk about Rose's error against City - he was one of our best players that day and has been in basically every game, bar Stoke and Villa. He has improved hugely and deserves way more credit than most Spurs fans give him.

This isn't an anti Davies post - I think they will provide good competition moving forward, I just don't like our fan's attitude towards certain players.

I don't think anyone is saying that he should keep his place if he doesn't keep his place. The difference between saying that he should keep his place now and saying that if he plays a couple more games to a similar level he should keep is place is pretty marginal.

Ben Davies has been improving fairly consistently this season. The weaknesses you talk of were there earlier on this season when he was still adapting to the new team and (I think) working his way through a drop in form that saw him not perform up to his first season standard last season. He rightly wasn't given a chance ahead of Rose who was performing well, he responded well (going by media reports at least) and got his chance and took it.

With his inclusion and improvement in form we've looked more sold as a team too. This probably isn't all down to him, but worth keeping in mind.

Now Rose is working his way back from injury, even when he is fully fit physically he won't be fully match fit. So the idea of a fully fit Rose coming back isn't necessarily even an option. For me the clincher is that Ben Davies is 21 whilst Danny Rose is 24, I think that makes it likely that Davies has a higher potential and I would rather give him game time than Rose if they're performing at a similar level. I agree though that the competition is good for us, and having slightly different left backs to choose from can be a strength for us. Quality backup surely is a good thing and we should have games enough to give both players a chance.

Had Rose been fit I would have considered playing him against Palace just to give Ben Davies a bit of a rest and also inject the energy that Rose does bring to our team.

Largely agree with your post and I think you'll find over the course of the season the pair would have played a similar amount of games unless serious injury dictates.

What I will say in support of Rose is that when Davies goes forward with the ball he doesnt really inspire me that the attack is going anywhere, more often than not he will look to pass the ball back or go inside - basically not take me any risks. Im not saying its a bad thing as ball retention is a good thing, and he does have a decent cross on him. But with Rose I feel there is more attacking intent and when he gets the ball he is always looking to attack, hit the touchline and create something. Of course his end product could do with improving, but I do enjoy his eagerness to get down the left hand side and support our attacks.

This is why I think we have two very capable LBs available who can be called upon dependant on the opposition....

I think what the Everton game showed us is we can limit the opposition even when we don't have possession.

Really hope we get to play two real FBs Saturday to see if we can continue that.

I would put Rose on the bench and see if we need a more attacking option later in game. Still might be worth a punt in Europe/Cup to try Rose in front of Davies as an option

I agree with this.

I agree, in fact I'd go as far to say he was our best outfield player alongside Chadli before getting injured. Poch used to rotate Clyne and Chambers a lot at Southampton, maybe something similar could work for us.

Rose was playing well individually, however the defensive unit that he was part of, wasn't.

Regardless of if you feel Rose is better/worse than Davies, the Davies/Vert/Fazio/Vlad seemed to work better as a unit.

So it was Rose's fault? We've changed half the team since Rose got injured, maybe they've contributed to that. Even then I wouldn't go tooting our horn just yet, we did just ship three in our last game afterall.

Certainly not fair to just blame that on Rose, and I don't think that's what Raziel was doing either.

I do think Davies seems better as a team player, more composed, better at positioning. But early to say I suppose. Might just be because Rose is a converted winger that it just seems like it.
