Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

We can’t keep changing managers every time we have a bad spell.
I agree with this: majority of Gooners wanted Arteta gone last season and now look at them. However, we also need to have a manager that is invested in the club. Conte doesn’t seem to care about the now or the future. It seems like he’s stringing the club along until the end of the season and will then walk. We DO need to back the manager but we also need the manager to back the club. He’s not doing that. If he’d have been more positive when asked questions about his contract situation I’d have been pro keeping him. But he’s cryptic at best. Get rid.

we were in a good position going into the WC break iirc

Not so sure about that. With the games at home to Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Liverpool, and the away games to United and to Forest for the League Cup, and the difficulty we had to beat Leeds who were going through a bad spell iirc, it was pretty clear that we were not having that good a season at all. We were extremely fortunate in the CL, because we could have easily lost in Marseille, and then it would have been much more obvious. But it was never good - not the opening game against Saints, the dreadful performance at Chelsea, the lack of inventiveness at home to Wolves. And that was just August.

The more I think about yesterday, the thing that really boils my tinkle is bringing on Sanchez with 10 minutes to go instead of Danjuma when we are desperate for a goal.

we don’t know that, that’s projection based very little data

Plus.....the football is utter brick

the points we accumulated despite some key players being badly off form suggests to me he was doing a decent job

Agreed.
But is this really the club vision we want right now?
Even when popular managers have gone - Poch, Big Martin Jol, Redknapp - there has been an air of sadness because it has been really enjoyable in the not too distant past.
You can't say that with Conte.

It also seems like he's lost the dressing room:
The Richi comments
The less than glowing endorsements from players in interviews, and just lip service instead
Yesterday's staying in the dressing room
The very recent emergency team meeting
The performances and on pitch atmosphere when Stellini was overseeing things instead of Conte.

In isolation those can all be explained away. They are not in isolation.

That's before we get in to the contract situation.
It isn't working. We've tried the "big club" model - we need to realise that's not where we are. We need to be more like Sevilla or A.Madrid and build with a clear ethos and identity, rather than trying to be Chelsea.
In a weird way I think our off field success has been a negative - it's like a runner buying the best trainers and thinking they'll massively improve performance instead of understanding it's just small gains, and the vision and training are what drives the increase. He'll get injured along that journey; we've spent a few years now with nigling injuries.

I agree completely. The uncertainty around Paratici is an additional complication for Levy here. You just know that he has texted Poch already to ensure that he is available, as of now or in the summer. But if Levy sacks Conte now, and I hope he does given the kind fixture list that we have, then Poch will want to know what the situation with the DoF and him and Levy is going to be. And I'm not sure even Levy knows that himself.

And, an additional thought: sacking Conte and Paratici at the end of the season, when Conte's contract runs out and if the initial verdict in the Juve case is not overturned, is a hell of a lot cheaper than firing both now. Any guesses? Would that be 10m now, and zero in the summer?
Getting back in the CL is actually better value
Just being in Europe brings in decent money
That is the risk keeping clame here

Honestly
There are quite a few managers who could do it IMO

Can you give me a list? Any list of names needs to take into account that Levy turned down a Potter level of experience before when he was emminently gettable, so people like Frank, de Zerbi etc don't seem likely to cut it with Levy
