Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

AVB via BBC:

"It was difficult after the sending off. We said at half-time a goal would put us back in the game. The third goal was the killer and ruled our confidence out.

"I think the sending off is a bit unfair. I think a yellow card was more appropriate that was the key moment in the game."

"Regarding my position, it is not for me to decide. I can only work to make things better. Today was not to be because Liverpool had a great, great game. They deserve credit.

"I don't need to convince anyone. Our run is magnificent in the other competitions but not in the Premier League. Our form in the Premier League is not there, our ambition to win trophies is the same and to qualify for the Champions League is the same."

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

Is anyone listening?

He's now said that "we have the most shots on goal in the league" when asked why we didn't produce any shots today. He also said "we're doing so well in the other competitions we are in but not the league". It's pretty laughable.

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

Hi

What are your thoughts atm? I know you've written detailed pro-AVB analyses especially last week after the Sunderland game and I'd be very interested to hear if your overall views on how we play or plan to play under AVB has changed...particularly wrt Liverpool's play generally

I just think it's very sad. I think everything he has in mind is right in theory, and can work. I think there is a plan there, but it just isn't working. Other clubs are getting better results with similar new managers and new signings. They may have bumps, and I would expect bumps for us, but we haven't just seen bumps. We've seen horrific, massive crashes and this can't be right.

And I just don't know why...everything I understood his methods to be; preserving the intensity and controlling games went out the window against Anzhi where we just threw caution to the wind in a pointless game...don't understand it and we started flat today.

I don't disagree with how we play, or how we are trying to play. It works in theory. It's just not working right now and as I said, it isn't just bumps. Something is not working...and I don't really have organised thoughts at the moment to write something coherent to be honest but I don't understand it.

Basically today, we were against a side that kept their world class superstar and had a positive net spend vs a team that lost their world class superstar and ended the window in profit. Yes we spent the money but Bale was worth 86M to us so he was going to be that big of a loss. All these players from abroad haven't setted and maybe we should just judge after 6 months, and if we can stay in touch until that point then it's ok.

And I don't know exactly who we can get in that's going to get more progress out of this squad than AVB could considering the work he has already put in...Capello and Hoddle...Sherwood....there is no-one ready for us at the moment that you think would be a definite upgrade.

Tonight was a watershed. Like Emirates Marketing Project but this was bigger. We need to put down a marker and not let the uncertainty take hold. Either we back AVB and understand the new signings were all from out of England and therefore will take time and judge him at the end of the year, or we say this isn't acceptable and we move him on. But I don't think there's anyone we can get, which means we should back him. I can basically understand why people's faith would be broken after today though.

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

I doubt if any of us have seen a worse performance in years. Many many years - a decade? But which manager is there, who is available, who knows the English league, who could do better? If two centre backs are injured and we only have one left back, who is also injured, things might get worse before they get better.
Shambles, but I don't know whether simply changing the manager is the answer. Equally I'm not at all convinced that AVB is the right manager for Spurs and our traditions. Fortunately the Chairman isn't known for indecision....

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

He's gone tomorrow. Capello to be the new manager I reckon.

He has got so many things wrong this season and has undone a lot of what Redknapp done since his time in charge. Not the man for te job, looks clueless and it's not the first time we have seen this. He's so far out of his depth.

Bye bye AVB

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

yep as expected he's talking about injuries and it being "difficult after the sending off".

Injuries did play a part somewhat so I agree to an extent but its not like even with a fully fit team we have been great - look at the ****ty result or West Spam result.

Its the manner of the defeats. I so think someone could come in and within days IMPROVE that team

That's why he's sent out 7 of the players that played today in a friendly against Anzhi on Thursday.

Doing well in the Europa League against league 1 level opposition and winning on penalties against a **** Hull side.

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

Im torn - i believe he should get the season but results like this (alongside several other) are unacceptable

The only reason I can see for giving him the entire season is to make sure that we're not in the europa league next season and have a clear run next year with a new manager. Seriously though, get rid now and give the new guy the January window to sort this shower of **** out.

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

On Liverpool's style of play...it's clearly very nice but they do remind me a lot of us under Harry in his last year. If they keep it up all year then Rodgers deserves to be known as one of the best managers in the game. I just don't look at their squad and think their true position is to be top 3 playing amazing football...so if he keeps it up over 38 games I will doth my cap and say he is one of the best managers in the game.

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

I'm the same as you billy, another result like this and I don't think I could cope. We still see long balls being pumped up to Soldado and Chadli because our midfield aren't creating options, but there are three of them. How can that be the case. Our off the ball movement is poor and I'm still looking for signs of improvement (have been for almost a year). The players look 2 seconds off the pace at time, moving into positions to receive the ball only when prompted to by the player on the ball. Walker got robbed a few times today because he was trying to run it out from the back due to no passing options.

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

Souness and Carragher can see what is going wrong ...how come AVB can't. Their analysis is spot on.

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

We all know that a Chairman's Vote of Confidence is usually taken to mean the reverse! Does AVB still have the players' trust? At very least you would have thought they would be sounding out the availability of a replacement. 5 nil at home is just unthinkable.
Also think the players should take some blame: Paulinho didn't play midweek but he was dire.
More to the point: what will it do for confidence?

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

Sorry but time to go even with 11 we did not look like scoring in a month of Sundays

Could understand if he gets the sack but i don't see the point if it's just a stop gap coming in.

Like I said in the OMT, I'm not sure what to say anymore to defend him.

I supported him but was very worried after the West Ham game tbh but people insisted that it was a one off game, every team has one in a season. Then Emirates Marketing Project. Then Saudi Sportswashing Machine. Then now Liverpool as well.

We have the 13th best home record in the league now, with only Aston Villa having scored less than us at home and only 2 teams have conceded more than us at home.

Away record, fair play to him, 2nd best in the league.

We have big big problems.

Is there room for one more?

I have believed in AVB too, since day one I have agreed with what he has said but when you lose 6-0 away from home and 5-0 at home in the space of four weeks even I have to question it.

I just don't know what is happening, I really don't and I'm really worried.

I don't want him sacked today or tomorrow but Christ one more performance and embarrassment like that and can't see it lasting any longer.

Re: ***The Official AVB Discussion Thread***

I'm sure he'll be beaten over the head with this result, for me though the players have to look at themselves, I didn't see anywhere near enough effort or desire from any of them today.

its an entire team. the mood , demeanor , attitude and character all looked wrong.

paulinho especially for the second goal....terrible.

i was actually relieved after i let the frustration of the red card sink in ....have thought pauli needed a rest fore a few games now. this forces avb to stop flogging that dead horse and give him a break

really starting to think kd isd right to some degree about him.

today was a complete mess....even at 10 down there needs to be a level of pride...especially as we didnt properly chase the game

i ****ing dont know the point of soldado
