I like the way he breaks with direct running looking for a pass. He could partner Dier successfully in midfield imo. Has a nice passing style, likes to feed in balls to attackers a bit like Lamela? He'd fit in with Eriksen, Son, Lamela, Alli imo.
My reservation is that he is of a similar level and style to what the players we have. Maybe that shouldn't be a reservation as we finished 2nd in the PL, and have some amazing talents. But I'm not sure he would take us up a notch. He'd dramatically improve the squad not necessarily the first team. On the other hand knowing Poch, he would expect the most from Gomes in training, and ask him to take a step forward to become a better player; in which case he could become the next big thing.
They are practically impossible for us to get, but we need a Alexi Sanchez, Sane, Mane, maybe Sessegnon type player to complement the trickey technical players we have already. Gomes would improve our depth no doubt, but to take a bigger step forward, we need a different type of direct player to complement imo.
Eriksen has missed almost no games in how many years? Having Gomes should enhance the likes of Eriksen as we'd be well stocked with players who can play that role - Lamela & Son too - and be able to rest the Dane once in a while. So Gomes is more of the same which if he's a reasonable price should be welcomed.
