American politics

Even the whackos won't go for Trump. He got one vote from Rapey McForehead for bricks and giggles.

McCarthy will make every concession required to the so-called 'Freedom Caucus' until he is speaker, but it will be in name only. The whole thing is out of control and it will get worse. Expect repeated calls to impeach Biden, attempts to defund investigations into Trump and the Jan 6th investigation, government funding fights, and other mayhem. And some of these freedom caucus members may be targets for the Jan 6 special council investigation themselves. The nutjobs will be running the asylum and this time it is not even hyperbole.

If 6 GOP house members sided with the dems this would be all over, but so would their political careers.

These right wing nuts do not believe in government, so wrecking the joint is fine by them, as it reinforces their narrative. The loons cannot even agree amongst themselves as to who to vote for and many vote for different candidates from one day to the next.

If you dismantle government to the point of it no longer functioning you'll be proven right that government can't do those jobs. Great way to be proven right if one ignores the death and destruction that is left behind.

They don't have to agree on this so they get the freedom not to. No real personal cost (or cost to lobbying groups) to the chaos. But as soon as there is a political cost they close ranks. They will again.

Apart from gutting all public services, there are things there that aren't necessarily bad. Of course, american politics is based on everyone acting in good faith and having principles, things we know republicans no longer care about.

This is the least serious of the charges he is facing too. Wait till the hammer drops for the more serious ones.

edit: so I think there are more charges in the offing here above the Stormy Daniels payoff. Witness tampering maybe? That is a significantly more serious crime and bumps it up to a felony.
