American politics

I don't get the "lets keep trump out the UK" brick.

The left say "Lets keep trump out" but the same say "lets welcome back ISIS trained extremist because its part of a major city"

Crazy times
The Right say they "gay marriage is ok" but the same say "being gay is a Sin and they are going to hell" ..not sure what this brings to the conversation but its easy to find extremes in any group of people.

Trump courts the support of white supremacists, so I have no problem with people giving him sh1t if he wants to come and visit. I don't think we should stop him coming, but I don't think we should stop people protesting his visit either.

We've let leaders of regimes with pretty bad human rights records visit this country, so may as well let candy-floss head come over. If he does, I hope he gets no end of sh1t to dent his ego.

*edit* but I don't think he will come over, because his ego won't allow it.

I just find the Sadiq Khans of the world saying "Keep Trump out" but "Let ISIS trained Brits back and integrate them" slightly inconsistent in messaging. Trump is not a threat, ISIS is and has been. So as the Mayor of my city I find him bizarre in his priorities

Oval Office

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Thank you very much. It’s a great honor to have Prime Minister Solberg of Norway. Just had a very resounding election victory, so it’s another four years at least. And very respected by her country. Very liked by her country.

We do a lot of business with Norway, and I know you just bought some additional military equipment in the form of F-35s and other things, and so I congratulate you. We make the best in the world, we make. And Norway is a great customer and a great ally, and a great friend. So it’s an honor to have you. Thank you very much.

PRIME MINISTER SOLBERG: Thank you very much. And I’d just like to say, we are really appreciating the good work that we have together with the United States. You are our closest ally inside NATO. And we see your military personnel also training in Norway, and it’s a part of what you think is very good on our bilateral cooperation also. In the last years, there has even been a surplus from the U.S. to Norway on the economic side. So you must be making good products. (Laughter.)

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, we’re doing a little bit, and we do make great product. And we were just discussing with the Prime Minister, we make the greatest military equipment in the world, and you buy a lot of it and we appreciate that. It’s called jobs.

PRIME MINISTER SOLBERG: It’s called jobs, yes.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: But it’s also called great equipment.

PRIME MINISTER SOLBERG: You know, Norway contributes too. I think we have estimated it — up to 470,000 jobs in the United States by our investment and what we are doing. And it’s a special thing; you know, we have very — our climate policies now about make (inaudible) our transportation system different.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Yes.

PRIME MINISTER SOLBERG: So, Teslas are a big hit in Norway.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Oh, good. Well, that’s good.

PRIME MINISTER SOLBERG: Yes, electrical cars.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: We do that too. Thank you very much.

PRIME MINISTER SOLBERG: Yes, thank you.

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Thank you, everybody. Thank you very much.

I like to bathe in custard.

Banning heads of state because we don't like them sounds like a dangerous precedent. Who decides that? The PM? The shouty leftist media? Do we have to gather parliament together and take a vote whilst each state visitor sits at Heathrow waiting?

As with most free speech the issues, it's far more important that we hear the fool and make our opinions clear than just arbitrarily keep him out of the country.

I would normally agree but this guy is taking the tinkle out of his office. I seriously would have no qualms in banning the idiot!

To be honest, it seems as if Trump has banned himself from coming, because his ego won't take a very large demonstration of people in another country telling him that he's a qunt. I still disagree with those who call for his ban, but as it turns out, it's not even necessary. The Donald is too fragile.

Plus, I am pretty sure we'll have had worse people than him come and visit, though they may have been more polite in public.

As is the Ruler of Saudi and a fair few that manage to fly under the radar
Part of the difference being, the likes of Saudi don't pretend to be anything else.

The US still present themselves as leaders of the free and welcoming etc etc, an ethos which most of Trump's ideology contradicts.

There are plenty of abhorrent leaders in the world and we should show them what we think about them too. They are just smart enough not to make their scumbaggary Into a Twitter based showreel

I get what you are saying but a scumbags a scumbag so rolling the red carpet for one and then playing moral high ground with others does not work for me thats all

Have we rolled the red carpet for others?

Genuine question, Im not aware. And I would have expected a certain level of objection had we been receiving the Saudis on a state visit, for example.

I dont see why we should accept him, let alone welcome him. Id much rather our leadership stood on principle and told him to fudge off.
