2022 World Cup... gonna ruin the European Season

Are Spurs winning the World Cup? Trying to think which other clubs have had more players or better performances from those who advanced to the knockout stages.

Perisic has looked so lively and hungry, Lloris answering the call when challenged, Sonny put in plucky performances with a broken orbital bone, Kane has been excellent, Dier has cheered manfully from the bench and been decent when called upon. Romero has been his feisty self in Argentina's backline that has only yielded an own goal in three games since the shock loss to the Saudis.

Richarlison has been the revelation of the tournament. He's been energetic, saucy, skillfully audacious and has scored the best and second best goals so far.

Delighted to see hard-working toilers like Hojbjerg, Bentancur and Davies get home early. Rodon and Sarr I hardly got to see so unfair to judge them. Just hoping those that remain come home handsome and healthy.

Only Romero, Pulisic, Richarlison, Kane and Lloris to go. And Dier.

Three or four of our players will reach the semi finals i think.

Either Kane + Dier or Lloris. Then either Perisic or Richarlison, Romero the question mark.

Good news is that there's a real chance of one of our players coming back as a World Champion, not just in the squad, but first choice or even captain. There's a downside, but also a solid upside.

Cannot help thinking it will be initially very tough for our returnees to immediately refocus on the PL. Especially any that reach the final or win the thing. At least last time around the likes of Kane, LLoris et al had a few weeks back before they needed to come back down from the intense motivational and physical investment it demands.

Some team news for Saturday's quarter-final between England and France.

Kylian Mbappe has been absent from France training in Doha tonight. The French Football Federation say he’s having a recovery session.
