2022 World Cup... gonna ruin the European Season

The quality across the board is pretty poor. Only France and Brazil really look half decent outfits.

All the big players are past their best too, and there's no real emerging stars yet, like you often get

I think it's quite standard for some of the best teams starting with inconsistency. And defensive solidity often being the most important thing when the knockouts really get going. It's more rare to see fully flying or even highly functional team units.

Depends what you mean by emerging stars. You talking about players you didn't already know about? If so, I get what you're saying, often there's one or two that has a stormer seemingly out of nowhere.

However, if we include players that are better known. Pedro, Gavi, Bellingham, Tchouameni. All fantastic young players. Several others that are still young enough that they would be counted as emerging stars if not for them already being so damned good. (Probably could include some of those above in that too).

Some older teams, players still getting games because the next generation haven't been good enough. I think that too is fairly standard for a world cup.

Kehrer's a right donkey. The clue should be in the West Ham bit. Surely Germany have better than him?!

That's the nature of international fotball for almost all teams most of the time. Having top players in an positions is more the exception.

I thought they both looked average too
Spain press well when they don’t have a striker on and they do love their nest passes
Germany looked very clunky to me

Funny how differently we can see things. Thought both were rather good. Not fully into their groove, but rather impressed with Germany in particular. Huge pressure game, going behind. Still played some really good football.

If either of them get slightly better as the tournament progresses (and go through) they'll be a challenge for anyone.

France and Brazil have looked better. But we've all seen teams look really good, then all of a sudden struggle.

Agree about Germany. The face that Sule is one of their first choice CBs tell you something - he makes Dier and Maguire look quick and agile. Complete donkey

Spain look well drilled as you say. I'm not sure that they'd have enough in the final 3rd if/when they come up against a decent defence but could see them making the semis at least

Almost, though for the wrong side

That text commentary is a terrible representation of what happened, it was actually good defending, if Terry or Rio had done that the commentary would be waxing lyrical. Plus, they got the name wrong, N’koulou is the defender who did it, rather than Nkoudou who would have been about 40 yards away!

not a dig at you Glenda, but just another example of how you can’t really trust anything the text commentaries say.

I had to take a call at that point so wasn't watching the game (but did wonder why he was described as a defender by Sky!) Typical! Lesson learned.
