2022 World Cup... gonna ruin the European Season

I’m fond of Williams to be honest, but there is a genuine post on here from me somewhere, about 4 years ago, asking who the fat Robbie impersonator was in Russia’s opening ceremony .

(also, what the fudge happened in his kitchen)

FIFA have put themselves in a mess here, this tournament could kill the WC.
The Business of football revolves largely around broadcast and licensing rights. Covid showed us how artificial fan noises can be used to replace missing fans in the stadium.

I don’t just mean the fans. The whole tournament is a mess, one of the most obvious sports washing enterprises in history.

We’ll still have massive football tournaments, but I can see FIFA losing out long term, it’s been an enormous mistake*.

*Two in a row actually.

I just watched Netflix documentary about fifa and its interesting to see blatter and some others say that corruption is in the communities and fifa can't control that.

Also a small point around how football is becoming politicised and how ill equipped a non profit organisation like fifa is ready to manage.

I mean blatter, infantino what do they know about global politics and ethics?

Oh I was glad to see the fifa exco get put away but equally surprised blatter escaped through ignorance of what was happening around him.

Same story with ceos running companies that destroy the environment and evade any kind of responsibility.

Blokes a deluded clam

These huge deflection speeches mean absolutely nothing. Hypocrisy may exist in the west, hell it exists everywhere, but that doesn't mean that there are not a number of facts that still exist here. It was a bribed bid, the migrant worker crisis is an issue, the countries laws are homophobic. Call it and package it however you want but you can't muddy the facts

His speech was Putinesq, almost "its our sport, we will do what we like, people have to lump it"

Eventually someone will do what's right for the world on subjects that are frankly bigger than sport, we can say as much as we like "the teams don't choose where is awarded" but that's just an easy way for people to clear their own conciounce in watching.

"I know what it's like I was bullied for ginger hair" FFS, the whole justification for supporting this WC given today.....fudge me the world's a mess

Just seen a clip of that first tweet on TV. Jaw droppingly bizarre!

Absolutely the actions of a man clambering to make sense of his own mess. I know what Migrant workers and gays feel like because I was bullied for being ginger? FFS, I mean FFS. Don't worry mate, you might have lost your colleagues to poor conditions, living away from your family to earn a meager income, living in huts in the desert with little or no aircon, but you know who is with you, the head of FIFA.....and you know why? Because he was once ginger.

Must be the most underwhelming opening game in football tournament history. Europa league third round qualifiers feels more appealing.

Like you say, I would not be surprised to see Quatar win 1-0 from a dodgy own goal or penalty, though.
How many players have Qatar bought for this tournament? Their handball team consists almost entirely of former Yugoslavs. Team sheet was all Jovanovic, Stefanovic, Gerbic etc. Recon they've done the same with the football team?

Not as bad as other sports, few of their better players are from Africa

Interesting run of games they had this year

Nah, they are partners. Doubt Bud will go in hard on fifa. It's the TV audiences that are the main part. The stadium sales are peanuts in comparison.

Whats happened with ticket sales for this? I read they have sold record numbers but I just not sure I believe it and logistically I just struggle to get my head round it. 3m people in the country means the natural numbers are not there for locals to fill the games (a small % of the 3m will be interested in the games). There are not enough hotel rooms in Qatar (Approx 40,000) to host the numbers they are talking and logistically if you were commuting in from say Dubai or Abu Dhabi for the games as say an England fan thats a logisitcal/expensive exercise.

WHat I am saying in short is, they cant have the numbers they would expect for a world cup that say a Paris, Munich, London would have for example? Surely
