Apparently alcohol will be available in the VIP sections of the stadiums, though.
Confirmed now that it's banned in the stadia, except the corporate areas of course.
I know this is not the most abhorrent thing about this world cup by any stretch, but it's just another example of the hypocrisy and corruption of the whole thing.
You're either happy to have alcohol sold, or you're not. Not we don't want alcohol sold but we'll look the other way if you're from FIFA or a sponsor.

Well let's see haha, but no in seriousness I don't gravitate to internationals anywhere near as I once did which helps massively and its a busy time in life and social at the moment which helps ignore it. Not saying I can totally avoid it and it will be on in nearly every pub I go to, but I won't be tuning in

I was with a tour group on an overnight train in Vietnam a few years ago - we drank the train dry before it was half way along the journey.....
.....they stopped part way through to stock up specially with more beer.
We drank all of that too.....

Did a similar thing on one of my clubs Easter tours, drank all beer on train before we got to Basingstoke on way to Poole
They did, but Qatar suddenly decided they should be the opener. It was supposed to open with Senegal-Netherlands on Monday before changes were made a few weeks ago.

Must be the most underwhelming opening game in football tournament history. Europa league third round qualifiers feels more appealing.
Like you say, I would not be surprised to see Quatar win 1-0 from a dodgy own goal or penalty, though.
