2022 World Cup... gonna ruin the European Season

Club and country just aren't good enough.

Messi, Lewandowski both missed penalties but grind out results for club and country sometimes. He had our top rating tonight, It's not like he disappeared like many others do.

It's just one of those things. Shame, maybe we'll uncover some better defenders by the next Euros and the team will be stronger around him by then

Defenders are fine - not great but good enough

We need a midfield that can pass forwards and wide forwards who don't keep running I to blind alleys or giving the ball to Henderson

I tried to put myself in his mind , I would have had no idea where to put the second one , I don't think he did either, so he went for the very top corner, a high risk , lower percentage penalty ( can go both high and wide ).
I think Messi had been practicing for this very scenario and adapted to doing the checked run up and waiting for the keeper to go first.

Taking a penalty against your club team-mate always sounded like a losing proposition. He's the regular spot-kick taker for England. It would have sent the wrong message if he didn't take it. Problem is, there was apparently no plan B. Or maybe he was confident he'd score. Certainly didn't seem to lack confidence at the press conference... which was the kiss of death, of course.

messis penalty record isn’t great for his country
Lewandoswki had one saved by Hugo the other day but hit lucky
Rare to have two penalties for the same player though and against his team mate

Bellingham has tremendous potential but he’s not there yet, Rice is bang average. Tchouameni is class imo. I don’t particularly rate Rabiot, but he’d start for England too.

Maddison being injured was no loss, Grealish is better, and he’s nothing special either.

Rabiot is rubbish and would be a sub for England
Maybe come on for Henderson
Tchouameni Is young and will get better but not at Bellingham’s level
Rice and Bellingham IMO are comfortably better than them which is why England had so much more possession
And that’s england with Henderson and First half scared Saka down the right

It’s not solely his fault. He’s a brilliant player. One of the best strikers in the Premier League era. But I’ve seen people on twitter compare him to Henry, Flav Bateman for one said he was better than Henry. I love Kane and I hate Henry but it’s just embarrassing to say he’s better than Henry. The top players in the game have won big trophies, even Shearer managed to bag a league title despite not playing for a real top club. And they need to get their team over the line in the big moments. Kane unfortunately hasn’t done that. Again, not all down to him, but he hasn’t covered himself in glory in do or die games when you consider how good his overall play is, he’s not just a goalscorer. He just doesn’t influence the game enough in the big moments for me. Not to say he never does it, just doesn’t do it enough in win or go home games.

We’re talking about a keeper here for us so he is sexy and must have a weak mentality by default
But he is possibly going to be the first ever to achieve that if it they win
fudging gutted though as England are as good as France and IMO kane winning the World Cup couldn’t be topped by anyone

How many top players have won big trophies not playing with other top players?
Shearers team was the most expensive in the land… he was a record signing don’t forget
Henry was playing club football with world class players
The only time I’ve ever seen a player lift the club to win things beyond the level of everyone else was Maradona twice (club and country) and Joses Porto
Last year in France you had it with the title and that was a team thing
It just doesn’t happen unless you mean lesser cups like the Fa cup or league cup

I take your point, but Shearer was the only world class player in that Blackburn side. Arsenal won multiple FA cups towards the end of Webber’s reign with arguably only 1 world class player (Alexis Sanchez). I just don’t think you can compare Kane with some of his peers when his trophy cabinet is empty and the people he is compared to have won almost everything. Like I said, definitely in the discussion amongst the best PL strikers of all time but he’s got to win something to stake a claim to be the best IMO.

Lloris is very lucky to have a team full of class players to rely on. He was actually very good at the last World Cup but made a major blunder in the final against Croatia which fortunately for France didn’t matter in the end.

The fa cup now is a weak trophy IMO
It’s a trophy but it’s on par with the league cup. Any trophy where teams play reserve keepers is just that for me
Shearer was world class but the league wasn’t. The league back then had poor players doing well and isn’t the league of today with world class players at lost of clubs

Hence my comment about trophies being misguided
Some brick players have won the biggest trophies
At least Hugo leads his team
But that final he was poor in for sure but that was a strong France side. This isn’t
Right now I’ve got critic favourites as their midfield and defence is solid as a rock … I’ve fudged them now I know
