I don’t disagree that they had massive help from the officiating but they challenged for years even before they went all dark artsy. They’ve been getting similar numbers to what Poch did here in terms of goals scored and conceded and our fans lauded him as the best pound for pound manager in the game, albeit with much more money than Poch had.

The football was alot more attractive though, no bias at all there, just a pair of eyes

That’s a very Spurs tinted glasses view IMO. He’s built one of the best defences in Europe and one of the best squads too. I hate their style of play but he’s consistently had them in the top 2 when other clubs like United and Chelsea have spunked hundreds of millions up the wall and have been nowhere near challenging. Chelsea don’t even have European football this year FFS!

One man’s ‘consistent top 2’ is another man’s choking, late season collapse multiple times.

He’s a good coach but not one of the best in my opinion. He’s been clearly backed to the hilt yet somehow has failed to resolve his CF issue properly. Despite having a great squad, easily the best in the league, he only managed to score 44 open play goals in 38 games. I would expect more.

They also scored a whooping 38% of their goals from set pieces. Nothing wrong with that really, as it’s a justified way of scoring but I personally don’t associate it with the great coaches

I think the main thing for me is when I look at their squad and the way they play, I don’t see a coach that getting the team to exceed the sum of it parts. I see a highly efficient team, effective in their own way, but somehow feel restricted. At times you see them hanging on against lesser teams an you can’t quite figure out why.

You keep saying they wanted to get rid of him but they didn’t. That’s all that matters. United almost got rid of Fergie but he won the FA cup and they kept him. It’s irrelevant to keep bringing up that they wanted rid of him. I bet they’re glad they kept him now.

The fans did
That what I said

Did Mourinho do anything clever when he won PL titles? Chelsea and United have spent similar amounts to Arteta and have next to nothing to show for it in the last 2-3 years in terms of league campaigns. Chelsea have been absolutely nowhere near challenging. Liverpool spent £300m last season and didn’t challenge. I can’t stand Arteta but to say he’s not a good coach or is lucky is just Spurs tinted delusion.

He spent a fortune
Won it
Went to anther club and another league
Won the title
Came back…. Won again
Left and won titles again elsewhere
If arteta wins stuff like morinho is say he would in a discussion for best in the world managers ever

Did being the key word. I doubt any of them want to get rid now.

But they did
That’s what I said
Most now think he is great
That’s their call
I’d need to see him do a lot more myself
It’s why when you compared him to mourinho I was fogged up what he achieved for comparison
Lego head may do that. We will see

But they did eventually win it, even if by default. Liverpool won it by default with Slot. The bottler tag was very relevant when they were finishing 2nd but I don’t think you can level that at him anymore. Klopp finished 2nd to City more than once. Michael Jordan didn’t win the NBA title every season, Giannis Antetokoumpo even highlighted that to a journalist who asked him if Milwaukee’s season was a failure because they didn’t win the NBA title.

He did win lots of titles but your comment was Arteta didn’t do anything special but in reality he played a similar brand of football to Mourinho. Doesn’t really matter how you win. Now that Pep and Klopp are gone, I don’t see any better coach in the PL currently except maybe Unai Emery. He’s at least got to be in the discussion for the top 5-10 if you put Luis Enrique as the current number 1 and then everyone else.

I’ll compare him with others when I’ve seen there teams
I think over half the teams this season seem to have been guys in charge
Mourinhos team attacked a lot more than artetas last season side imo by the way
If artwta wins several titles then his status goes up. Right now he is behind arne slot for me, who won a tile here but also in Holland for example.
But arteta has his squad favourites again and he needs to deliver on that
All the teams who would normally compete with him have new managers so no excuses

Would prefer Savinho and Gakpo. Would take Jackson from Chelsea too but don't see them selling to us.

All fair points. Look I’m not saying he’s a bad coach or anything. I think he’s a good coach, a very good one in fact. So I’m not going to sit here and say you’re wrong because your points are just as valid as mine. Just disagree on the opinion that he’s one of the best in the world. He’s certainly on his way, just needs a few more trophies in his cabinet first I think.

It must be a sign of the times, a few seasons back most of the calls were for getting players no matter what they cost or their wages, when we didn't it was because of that cheapskate "Levy" now it appears wages are an issue and fans don't want to spend the clubs money. I don't have a clue what we are prepared to spend but I do know we need a goal scorer if we want to get in top half of table.

Wages have always been and always will be the block.
