Mikey Moore

We really threw him the deep end!! Unless of course it was himself who was pushing for Rangers over the likes of WBA....

He'll really need to swim or sink... the way Rangers are going...

If he gets a game, didn’t even get off of the bench last night.

From a selfish point of view Rangers getting dumped out of the CL into the Europa might be better for Mikey in terms of a better level for him to play at.
Although if they don’t pick up he might be playing under a new manager soon.

Old Firm at the weekend - no way Martin survives after that.

Yeah. Not one for the purists, but he looks like a boy playing with men.
He has some bulking up to do (which of course should be expected at his age). He's shown a couple of nice touches, but people were going on a year ago about how he should be played more for us - he is nowhere near ready. He hasn't even properly adapted to even SPL football yet, it's going to take some time for him and that's absolutely fine.

But people need to learn not to overhype our young players so much, it's done so often on here off the back of very little....

We'd given up on the league, had nothing to play for, no pressure. Ofcourse he should have played more for us to get experience. You saying he's not ready was just silly. We wanted him to play so to give him experience. Nobody had said he was ready.

It's good of you to have decided there would have been no pressure on him, and just chuck him in to give him experience it's fine - has no repercussions. The fact was it was a toxic environment in league games, not the best for a young player trying to make his way in the game.

He has naff all football experience, it's not as simple as you like to make out. Hence why management gave young players such as Gray and Bergvall with a lot of actual big boy football behind them plenty of minutes but Moore very little....

You get experience by playing games. It was after jan so we couldn't loan him out. Playing would be better for his developent thsn sitting on the bench.

I think readiness also depends on ready to do what exactly. Haven't seen him at all up there, but seems like they're really struggling and dysfunctional.

Possible to be ready to do a job, as he did in some games last season for a team that was playing alright. But for a team that's really struggling not to be ready.

Think Ange spoke about giving young players a chance when the situation is such that they have a chance of doing well. Makes sense to then not throw him in towards the end of last season in the league because we were really struggling.
That is what he is really, just turned 18 and has a lot of learning to do. The situation with Rangers at the moment [ being brick] is not really going to help him.
Hope they can turn it around somewhat at least. And that the experience of what's going on now can be useful even though he's not able to showcase his talents.

I think you have to look at the data on Mikey Moore last season

PL - 362 mins
EL - 307 mins
LC - 30 mins
FA - 114 mins

I think in a normal season, giving a 17 year old c800 mins with the first team would be quite good. It wasn't a normal season though with the crippling injury lists. We should remember that Mikey was also missing for 2-3 months. You could easily pro-rate this data up to over a 1000 mins across a fully fit season.

I sort of understood Ange's reticence to play these young guns who generally look technically good enough but not necessarily physically ready. Then there's the question about their smarts that come with experience. I don't think Mikey's involvement or lack of was the problem. It was Ange's reservations of using the others like Olusesi, Ajayi, Lanks etc when the fatigue was at it's worst. Ange would literally only use 3 subs and leave them sitting there. They barely got 5-10 mins at the end when the senior players were out on their feet. The same thing happened with Donley the year prior. He got splinters whilst we watched players really labouring in that season's injury crisis.

There is no right or wrong though. It's easy being Fergie and having a league winning squad and giving his talented kids cameos from the bench. It's a lot harder when the chips are down.

I also still find it incredibly painful seeing a guy like Sess struggling in his mid-twenties because of the dog abuse Fulham gave to his young body when he was a kid. Disgraceful. At least our club looks after their youngsters.
