Omar Marmoush

De Zerbi has to find a way of getting Marmoush in the central position behind the striker aswell as Maddison in the team. Marmoush will get us 10 league goals if he is playing in the correct position.

So what is maddisons correct position?

Super easy way to do. Accept the reduced physical presence and play Marmoush as the 9 and with Maddison in behind feeding balls into the space for him to run on to. When we tried Marmoush solo up earlier in the season it was never with someone who could split the lines and give him a chance in space to get his shots off.

Solanke doesn't even offer much of a physical presence, so it's not much of a step down.

let's assume next week is a write off, I'd like to see it tried v Palace

Need to see if he will be fit, or how long he will be out for after going off last night.

But Madison in behind Marmoush, Savio and Kudus sounds fun.
Even last night you could see players wanting to make a run in behind Coventry, and who ever had the ball wouldn't play it.

Or when we did the run wasn't timed, or we held the pass too long.

Am I right in thinking we saw evidence of Guardiola’s coaching there? The way that Marmoush let the ball past him to then turn on to it and finish

Just came in here to post that. Was a great show of awareness. Plus I’m amazed VAR for once didn’t disallow it for the “elbow”

Does this theoretically work with either Kulu or Simons as the 10, if not with Fernandes or Gallagher? Maddison is never going to be a permanent fixture in the lineup, sadly.

I think it works with Kulu also and Simons, they are all primed to play into someone. If we can as I said accept that he's not a physical battering ram, the increase in actual goal threat and shooting intention is beneficial.

For me Fernandes should never really play 10 and whilst Gallagher isn't the most finesse of players technically he does actually understand playing balls into space even if that's not really his strength.

Cool, will look forward to seeing it tried out. Definitely preferable to some hipster variant on 4-4-2 with Marmoush paired up with the striker we don't actually have.

Tonight I noticed something about Marmoush.
When he mucks something up, he smiles a broad sheepish smile, just like Ian Walker used to do every time he roostered up. Used to wind me right up, but now I am older and can see it is just some strange natural reaction of embarrassed frustration.

Damning with faint praise:
Q. So Roberto, many players played well today, but did Solanke and Marmoush look like scoring in a month of Sundays me old China?
A. Marmoush, Solanke, very well, especially when we lost the ball.

Solanke did have one excellent turn and half volley which keeper made a great save from, but yes, he is not what we need is he.

Agreed
And for Hallowe'en, Will Lankshear is doing his best cosplay impression of Harry Kane...

Another ineffective performance I thought, this time playing in what is apparently his best position as a second striker? He always looks a bit lost to me.
