Richarlison

"I've always made it clear, at every opportunity, that any move of mine to another place would also have to be good for the club. If it wasn't, I would never accept it... just like I didn't accept it when everything here was falling apart and they needed me. I stayed and gave my life. So, I hope they treat my situation with the same respect that I've always had for the Spurs and for all the people who worked with me during this period. Just don't try to decide for me."

Cheers. I could be misremembering (and should probably do my own research) but I'm sure there was a parting line about being willing to honour his contract and be there for the club. I appreciate that's not a grand gesture, it's the basic requirement and he, like all other top flight footballers are paid enough to give their absolute best but the whole thing is a mystery.

Are people upset that he described an unspecified time as things falling apart at the club? I'm struggling to see how the above statement is that controversial...No doubt the Everton move would've been better than potentially sitting out the 1st half of the season doing fudge all, if it pans out that way. The one thing you always got with Richy was a never say die attitude, no lost causes and always wanting to win, this idea he's a bad egg and has used up the supposed good will of the fans seems like copium to folk who want to believe RDZ is doing all of the right things. This is a messy one as discussed with Richy being good enough to start the 1st game and be given the number 9 shirt.

I'd say a couple of wins will be a tonic for where we're at to move on from this, but even just a goal would be a good start.

No, I remember that bit too

Can you quote what he said on social media and breakdown why you have a problem with it? If you have the time but no worries if not...From what I recollect, it wasn't calling anyone or the club out specifically and said he wa is available and willing to honour his contract but wants to make his own decision rather than being taken advantage of.

What's clear is currently the situation benefits neither player, or us. A lot of the rest seems like conjecture as it usually is.

So this is the statement to my knowledge

After everything I’ve been through in recent years, I decided that they would NEVER AGAIN decide my future for me. I’ve been through a lot of bad things these days and almost all of them happened because of decisions made by other people. Pressure, threats, retaliations, none of this scares me. I’ve been through worse things... believe me!

I have always made it clear, at every opportunity, that an exit of mine to another place would also have to be good for the club. If it wasn’t, I would never accept... as I didn’t accept when everything here was falling apart and they needed me.

I stayed and gave my life. So, I hope you treat my situation with the same respect that I always had for Spurs and for all the people who worked with me during this period. Just don’t want to decide for me.

“If they enter into an agreement between Spurs and Everton

I go back to my favourite team

My intention was to return to the place where I was very happy

But the negotiations were the way people wanted

And it won’t be like this anymore

Despite this riot, I have a contract with Spurs

And I will be at the club’s disposal”

Here's why I have a problem with it

1) Professional footballers should not make these types of statements period. It's not their place to be operating comms in this way

2) Using words like "gave my life" and "despite this riot" and "pressures, threats, retaliations" etc is just over dramatic BS. Richi is a highly paid professional footballer. He's clearly been watching too many Hollywood All American Hero films

3) "I’ve been through a lot of bad things these days and almost all of them happened because of decisions made by other people". - this irks me because it shows that Richi isn't owning things himself. He's just blaming others. In my world, you have to own things yourself. This theme is constant through the entire message.

4) He makes this entire message about Spurs and Everton, and conveniently forgets to mention the other club that offered him the fat salary.

I could go on and on, but 1 is the biggest thing. It's his lack of professionalism in the way he uses social media that is my problem. He is a company employee and he shouldn't be using it this way.

I think he’s being honest, clearly talking about agents.

I have no problem with what he said.

My feeling is that RDZ has thrown him under the bus in an effort to stamp some authority on the squad (or some other backwards management trick), which bearing in mind Richie’s openness about his mental health issues seems dumb as fudge to me.

This is a fudge up, and the club has probably given Richi a legal loophole (even if small)

The manager/club is absolutely allowed to freeze out a player, send them to U21's if you want. But .. the decision to not register him I could see as a legal problem, it shows the club has no intention to play him (hence grounds for his request to be released).

By simply leaving him in squad, we would be less exposed, unprofessional.

Lets see, footballs not an exact science anymore, dissenting voices can cut deep and it does not take long for players to switch off from a managers rhetoric. RDZ needs to start winning games otherwise its not unfathomable to think that players might look at the Richy situation from the opposite side than what you are hoping for.

We will see

We shall indeed see. I think the centre of gravity in the squad is shifting, which is why it’s important new leadership dynamics get formed. Because that reinforces the message being sent from the top.

Put it this way, I don’t think players like Tonali, Fernandes, Van Hecke, Marmoush, Robertson etc are going to give two hoots about Richy’s situation. They are professionals and would not ‘side’ with him over the club. Savio might be more sympathetic, some of the players here last season might also be, but I don’t think Richy has the political capital among the squad to seriously turn anyone away from being fully behind RDZ.

My only hope is that the players have been fully locked in for training for the Everton game, and there hasn’t been a distraction this week. I think it will be ok, and it’s more just frustrating that this all couldn’t have been sorted a couple of weeks ago.

There is simply no way the club is exposed IMO. If they were, basically any player could force a move to a club that couldn’t otherwise afford them by saying they wanted to leave, turning down all other offers, letting themselves be replaced and being stuck without a squad place, and then getting their contract cancelled. It would be insane. The club, who paid 50m for an asset, will not be forced to write him off.

Richy I think has unfortunately caused this either by A over thinking it too much, and trying to make some point by taking a stand against agents forcing him into moves, or B, by actually trying to manipulate a situation where he can go back to Brazil early. But he’s a contracted asset of the club, there simply no way he would have all the power over them.

I personally think he decided to take a stand against agents, and assumed that in the worst case scenario he could still stay at Spurs. And he didn’t anticipate that Spurs would be sending a message that any player that didn’t actively want to be here would leave. We don’t want people that are half in, or do this because nothing better has come along. And it is within our right as a club to do that. There is simply no way we are exposed in doing it.

Genuinely, what a completely ridiculous situation. How is this the club’s fault? We accepted bids from Everton and Vasco, we clearly allowed him to talk to Trabzanspoor. And literally no deal is good enough? He isn’t thinking straight.

Still seems like your reaction of "He clearly didn't care about the club when he sold his soul on social media. You reap what you sow" is particularly harsh, he mentions wanting to get a good deal for the club and he's there if Spurs need him...

I'm not sure what the guidelines are about discussing ongoing transfer discussions, it's probably better to wait until the dust has settled but if no move transpires and he sits around for half a season, it benefits nobody, to suggest he deserves that from the fairly innocuous post seems OTT for me. The manager has been discussing the happenings in press conferences rather than no commenting it, and Richy appears to be calling out agents more than anyone else.

Vasco's highest paid player is on 19,000 grand a week apparently, I don't know what Richie's on but a lot more than that.
Can we not make it a loan until January and see if someone comes back in for him?
They had Coutinho on their books last season so I would assume they are able to pay Richy’s wages.
