Roberto De Zerbi *OFFICIAL*

If Richie wasn't committed to staying, and with Solankes injury record, combined with us not looking to sign a proper 9 beyond a fill-in 9 like Marmoush or Gakpo, I'm surprised we didn't want to hold on to him even with the skinny game calender.

Under the scenario above he would have played.

After watching today....I'd rather have him than Delap all day long.
Id have kept Lankshear given we didn't have another in mind. Lankshear's profile would have been to have. We have too hope find a system that works with have though.

I don’t think we’re writing off games, it’s just a function of where we are. We could have won today.

I think it was interesting to hear his analysis about taking the wrong decision in the crucial moment in attack. This is what needs to come together. It seems like the team gets the build up piece ok. But it’s when it becomes go-time and we’ve created the space, we’re making the wrong call with the ball. Everyone needs to improve around that.
We really need an AM or someone to replicate that play. I look at us today and I think what would one of the missing three have done today in possession. We missed that drive and push in the middle third. I saw some green shoots, the general style is being implanted but it's rough and we are still missing some of the key ingredients. Hopefully time will bond the players together better and use the ball in those decisive moments better.

Yeah and as much as we can agree we have needed to improve all over the pitch personal wise, I do think a major reason for our struggles last season and this is the lack of a 10. We've had Kulu, Maddison and Simons all out with long term injuries in that position - if you took 3 main options for a number 10 out of any team then you would struggle to a pretty big extent.

Even just getting Maddison back would make a big difference, I'm not really convinced Marmoush is the answer as the 10 (but do like him) but perhaps my judgment is wrong there....

we need a stable starting eleven to get patterns and connections going.

so the faster all the guys get fit the better. and dezerbi needs to push the medical staff because every other team looks fitter and stronger than us.

the fit starting eleven should get priority - the unfit can take as long as they need but have to fight their way back into contention off the bench

Yea I kind of fancy us in that one, Pool will surely rotate whilst we should really be going full strength. Big game for us, not so much for them. A win there could really give an injection of confidence to the “project”(!). All ifs and buts at the moment though.

Seems like one where either team hits their straps and kicks on, be nice for abit of a look at the cup given the league start

I only just realised with have Liverpool in the EFL Cup hopefully our coming out party
Liverpool have midweek game against Atletico Madrid before their weekend game and then our cup game, hopefully they look to our cup game to rotate/rest a few.

Never confident away to Liverpool though, but regardless another game to get players used to each other and hopefully get a nice surprise....

We got thumped away at Brentford and didn’t register a shot on target at Forest yesterday. It’s going to have to be a hell of a rapid improvement to get anything at Anfield.

Yea I get it’s a leap of faith!

Though just for the sake of discussion, the team that plays v Pool will be unrecognizable to the one that took the pitch v Brentford. I really don’t think that game is relevant.

Re Forest we were marginally the better side away from home at a tough ground for us, stats and eye test back that up. The shots on target thing is a bit of a red herring as if you give Marmoush his 2 chances again he’d hit the target more often than not, similarly with VDVs header from 4 yards out.

And just to say again, my bullishness is based on the assumption that Pool will be rotating their side, if they don’t then yea of course we’ll be 2nd favorites.

Think it’s very interesting when you consider:

1. RDZ basically saying Thursday was the first proper training session with the ‘full’ squad. All players that wanted to be here post window, and most serious injuries overcome.
2. The fact we are listening so strongly to medical staff on playing time restrictions.
3. This idea that we didn’t have a fully intense pre season because we wanted consistency, probably post World Cup has an impact on this too, as well as the crisis overall in the last couple of years.

We are ‘starting’ very late. And the results through that lens aren’t surprising. Clearly decisions have been made to try and reduce the likelihood of injuries as much as possible. But it means players are behind other teams physically. It means we’re slow to get rhythm in attack. But actually in that context a point at a physical Forest side is a really good one.

I’m still not convinced about RDZ. Yes he kept us up (we would have gone down had we stuck with Frank or Tudor) so big points on the board for that. However, what is coming from him so far this season is excuses, shrugs and vagueness. Of course he needs time, but my positivity for a smooth transition and a settling of the squad has dimmed somewhat.

Did you post on here a good few years back? Am sure there was a user name the same or similar.

An idiotic decision. Anyone who has seen him from U21s onwards, knows how stupid selling him was.

It looks even worse now that he of banging then in for fun at the moment. I hate to say this but if Poch was here I don’t think he gets sold.

If only we shifted Solanke to boro instead
