There's been little money in European leagues for years beyond Real, PSG.
They rely on the finances of PL teams to trickle their way.

How many foreign teams (Inc BIG ones) have had financial turmoil...proof of the struggle.

So if we want Cuti to go abroad...it's literally 3 or 4 teams. Lowering the price is the only way to get more buyers in the room.

From a player ability/stature/length of contract pov ...he easily feels like a £60m player.

But like any auction (which technically is the process any player known to be for sale is under) ...the buyers in the room will dictate the hammer price.

From an Availability perspective you need to take the £60m and multiply it by the amount of games he is available for, if your a buying club
So about 2/3rds

As I said the other day, the top 20 transfers this summer money wise, 15 now are PL and 5 abroad (including Saudi), none abroad have been defenders. Thats telling on all levels
 
I don't think age is a problem. He's 28. Same as his partner in the World Cup Final Lisandro Martinez. And then Otamendi came on for Martinez, and he is 38, in a WC Final!

I wonder if we totally ruled out a move to the Prem for a higher fee than we can get from abroad, as it feels like various teams (LIV) could do with him. Or maybe they know the refs dislike him.

I suspect with one major move in him at peak he wants abroad. Likely on 2 clubs in the PL who can afford him who we would sell to, its a narrowing market for him

It was clear to me that would be the likely price - all that talk of 60-70m was naive
 
The lack of a sell-on fee because of his age is a major part of the low transfer fee.

Plus, if we have not managed to find a second team willing to bid for him then we have little leverage.

€40 is about £35.22p, which seems a bit low, even for a player who can expect to get booed at most English grounds next season if he stays.

(The above is not an entirely serious comment, even though I have never made a typing misteak inn moi liffe).

A lot of those are pre-COVID though and two are for defenders. The world, and soccer finances in general, have changed a lot since then.

35 mil does seem below market value but if you factor in…

a) the whole world knows we need to move him on
b) we haven’t found a second team to create a bidding war…

…then if this is the best offer we can get we have to take it. Any asset is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.
 
If Levy was still in charge we would have not made a move for Van Hecke until Romero had been sold. Which wouldn’t be until someone came close to his valuation of £50M+. That would not have happened until the last day of the window when £42M is accepted.

In the meantime, Van Hecke has moved to Arsenal as there replacment for Saliba who’s out until the new year.

We are OK though because we also have not let Dragusin go because his value has not been met. We didn’t sign Senesi either as he wanted big money for a 29 year old coming form Bournemouth.

Our CB’s for the new season are Danso, Dragusin, VDV & Davies. We finish 12th. De Zerbi already wants to leave.

But Levy didn’t get his pants pulled down so it’s ok.
