Tel is a young player with potential hell no is he one of the top prospects in Europe. That's entirely gas. Cubasi is a top prospect, Yamal is a top prospect, Endrick is a top prospect, Estavao is a top prospect, Franco Mastantuono is a top prospect, Barco is a top prospect, Quenda is a top prospect. You need to broaden your horizons a little bit if you really think Tel is considered either a top prospect or in the top 10 talents under 22, because he bloody isn't.

One thing I like about him, which might still even be underrated, is that he is robust. I don't think we should be selling players that have survived a couple of years at our place without serious injury.

I wonder if the perception some people have that Tel is regarded as one of Europe's top prospects comes from regurgitated press comments at the time when he joined Spurs?
He was 17 when Bayern signed him for about £25m four years ago, and given the fee, it is reasonable to assume he was rated as a good prospect. Four years later, he has improved but probably not hit the heights envisaged, and I, personally, would no longer regard him as one of Europe's top prospects.
Of course, he's still young enough to prove me wrong. He's got some decent skills and attributes, plus I think his attitude is good, so maybe all he needs is an extended run in the side to kick on. If he does not get a run in the side, I suspect he might look to move somewhere where he will be first choice.

Feel free to rate however you want, I just find the dichotomy frustrating when we have all of these world class players and top prospects but yet aren't winning the title every year at a canter or even challenging for it. Hell in recent seasons we aren't even challenging to be in the top half of the table.

I just would like a dose of realism but cool, rate these guys to whatever fantastical level you think is appropriate but then don't complain (and this isn't directed specifically at you) when we and those players don't hit the heights that you must expect to reach given how they are rated.

I think the part that amuses me the most is the majority who make these claims don't even watch football outside of Spurs and the PL so how would they know who is a top prospect and who isn't.

I saw someone make a comparison between Son and Tel at this stage and I just shake my head. I actually watched Son when he went to Leverkusen because we were linked to him at Hamburg and the level of difference between him and Tel is significant and even then people doubted Son and weren't claiming he was one of the "top prospects" in the game.

TBF, alot of that has come in the last 2/3 years at the feeling, given the youth team had won their trophies and we switched to buying youth who were highly sought (Bergvall and Vuscko) that people was obviously like to see the fruits of that. Honestly speaking, given most if not all are still under 21 and we are selling them on without first team activity I don't think anyone can judge this batch at all with any great certainty.

Like with most things, you have extreme views either side that don't align with the currently reality IMO, I think it would be better for more balance and a wait and see attitude rather than the constant point scoring behaviour that seems to have risen this summer IMO

Oh I absolutely agree on the wait and see approach and that's how I feel about Tel. I don't think he's exceptional or a top prospect but he does have some good qualities and time will tell if ends up being a quality player or not. I just wish people would actually give that time before they make these grand pronouncements. It's like people are desperate to have the best "something" if it's not the teams it's the stadium, the chairman or now the best youth team prospects etc.

Haters have to hate and lovers have to love, This happens quite a lot from fans. The guy has talent and is still improving, will he make the break through who knows but sadly there are fans who make quick judgements and IF they are proven wrong [ and it happens to all fans] rarely admit to it.

At 18 & 19 he played for Bayern and scored 16 goals in those first 2 seasons, absolutely was considered a prospect being kept out of an elite side by top level winger/strikers.

Never said i didn’t rate him just argued the fact that he became streaky and didn’t really add much more than goals in his final few seasons.

I’d still argue the comparison isn’t fair. Son was already scoring 10 league goals per season at the same age Tel is now.

In Germany and Tel was playing half the minutes Son did due to Frank being a div.

I fail to see how scoring four league goals, even in a struggling team, makes you one of the brightest young players in Europe. Forwards are ultimately judged on their output—goals, assists, and chances created—and his numbers are poor, even by the standards of a team fighting near the bottom of the table.

I'm not looking at his stats alone. I'm looking at his positioning, work rate, touch, physicality, confidence, use of both feet, the way he tries to make things happen. Despite being quite a new player in the hardest league in the World to play in and playing mostly under a really terrible manager in Thomas Frank. I don't see many better 21 year olds out there right now and I don't really see any that would be prepared to come to Spurs.

Id have to disagree. He could prove me wrong, but right now I’m not seeing anything that shows he’s worthy of some of the praise he’s received.
