It wasn't meant seriously .. it's actually more a dig at the idea that how many players a player has at end of career is the full benchmark.

No one will remember Johnson as an elite player

They might not even remember him as a PL long term.

Tbh trophies are one thing but it's actually your contribution to those trophies that matter. How you performed in rounds up to the final. How you performed in the difficult moments. How you combatted adversity. This are all the things that make players legends and yes to a large extent you do need success to complete the process otherwise you might be remembered as a talented player but probably not a legendary one.
 
Does this not just show how the level is so low in European competition outside of the Champions league?

I think the Champions league should be the winners of each league and the Europa league winner, then second and third would be the Europa league places and then 4th and 5th the conference league. Will make each competition much more competitive.

Or does it show how strong the PL is from top to bottom? Whereas the other European leagues are often dominated by one or two teams, the PL is much more competitive from the first thru fifteenth teams.

Which is basically what the European Cup and Uefa Cup were. Maybe the Conference League could be 4th place and the National Cup winners (a but like an expansion of the old Cup Winners Cup)

I am a believer if its called 'Champions' League then its just for Champions, but its never going to happen because its all about money now, and yes, every so often you may see the Champs of Spain meeting the English or German winners in an early round, but unfortunately there would be too many hammerings in early rounds with the likes of the Luxembourg or Malta League Champions (for example) playing the Italian or Spanish champs

Personally wouldnt bother me, but it wont bring the revenue for TNT/BT Sports that the current format does
