John Stones

The problem is he isn't actually good. The hype is mainly because for an English CB he is very comfortable on the ball and that is relatively rare on these shoes. Defensively he's a mess and always has been. The belief had been that you could improve his defensive skills but it's never going to happen.
So like a Juan Foyth that counts as homegrown?

The bbc gossip column via the Star reports that he turned down a loan to us as he didn’t want to uproot his family.

Whilst any genuine interest on our part surprises me, he’s not going to get any better defensively by not playing matches and being coached by ‘I want my defenders to be midfielders’ Frauduola.

might as well have kept Foyth. I always thought Arteta would take him to Goons and complete a wonderful partnership with sideshow Bob!

If we're going for Stones, we might as well have kept Foyth. With a consistent run of games he could have come really good for us.

See we are being linked again.... a decade later!

if it's on a pay per play contract, could offer a short term experienced option - especially if (when) Romero leaves. Danso - VDV - Senesi - Stones is a good CB quartet.

I know this is the resurrected Stones thread but that quartet omits Vuskovic who just made the Bundesliga team of the season and will likely be starting for Croatia at the World Cup (probably ahead of Sutalo)
He’s ready to be part of a Premier League squad

He will be going back to Hamburg... I suspect it is the enticement to get hi9m to extend his contract... which is the priority

If he does, I believe that means we can't get him to qualify a home-grown? Or whatever that category is which has helped mess up the European squad recently.
I suppose another year away means we could have a more experienced CB roster with maybe Danso to be shifted out after next season? If Stones comes in, it surely wouldn't be for just a year.
