English is not my first language.
Get the fcuk out of my countryEnglish is not my first language.
Or mine judging by the strange looks I get from Englanders.English is not my first language.
Are you full Rab C?Or mine judging by the strange looks I get from Englanders.
Strange thing is they all think they speak the king's English, all them geordies, scousers, mancs, roosterneys and whatever those strange people on the south coast are, if that's English I'm Dutch man.
English is not my first language.
But an immigrant’s first language is their first language. It is not going to change, regardless of how assimilated they are. That their first language is not English does not mean they do not speak English. And those that don’t will tend to be older, so it will be a declining stat anyway. What we will have is more bi-lingual people, which is no bad thing.
Ideally yes you would have communities that are very diverse in ethnicity but it’s generally white people who move out of areas when the non-white population begins to grow.
When I was at university I did a year abroad studying in Paris. There was a group of 6 from our uni, and whilst we would speak French in shops, restaurants or in conversation with a landlord or a random stranger, whenever we were together we always spoke English. It’s just a natural thing to do. I wonder if locals thought we should be speaking French amongst ourselves. For some reason people here seem scared or outraged when they hear someone speaking in a different language.
Personally I don’t care what language someone speaks, just do it quietly and don’t disturb my peace!

The issue is not really whether it’s a first language. It’s if you can’t speak English to any reasonable level and that happens when you have a particular immigrant population in one area. If the first generation has poor English it’s somewhat understandable it needs to be addressed. But you do have situations now where 2nd generation children are starting school and they cannot speak the language they are being thought in. Then you take into account every other aspect of society. Yes you may have a GP who speaks that particular language and the person of reception can to book an appointment. But is the specialist they need to go and see? Will their prescription instructions be written in another language? Tax forms, road signs, ingredients labels. You can go on forever.
I love this.English is not my first language.
Brits?Genuine question, how do you feel about indigenous Americans...............
Whoopp - Norwich went Green!!!
fudge Reform.
I love this.
"They should speak English"
"They" do, as well as numerous other languages. "They" can probably speak their 4th or 5th language better than most people that would complain can speak their second language.
There's not much point any more. Real time Babelfish type devices will be with us in the next decade. Phone translation capabilities already get you most of the way thereIf they can do that great. I think everyone should speak a 2nd language. I am semi fluent in Spanish.
So you don't think you should be allowed to be into Spain or Italy for longer than a 2 week holiday visa then, unless you are competent in their language?Being coherent and having a certain level of English should be the minimum requirement. It’s utterly stupid how far the left are taking this.
Not everything said about things like this is racism … how about some further thought and logic about the entirety of this? Instead of just screaming and pointing
Highest levels of wealth inequality since the 1880sWhy has Reform managed to get this going in the first place ? We only have to look at the failings of the two political parties before them that has created this vacuum.
I don’t even vote. But honestly the stupidity of saying anyone that votes for Farage is racist is just plain stupid.
