Roman Polanksi and Armie Hammer people definitely avoid their back catalogues because of their crimes as examples.
And listening to the operas of Wagner? To me, the arguement that you avoid the output of creative people because they were not saints is crazy.
It is akin to condemning national heroes of the past because their behaviour doesn't fit contemporary values.
I've been thinking about this a lot for various reasons, one of them being a friend of mine who's a professional politician flirted with the idea of joining/making a deal with a far-right party. When the idea was up in the air, I wondered what I'd do if he pulled the trigger. If people went up to me and asked, 'so, this guy's your friend?' Well, the thing is, he is and I don't think that reflects poorly on my own ideals (let's just say we don't agree on many things when it comes to politics).

I just didn't see myself saying, 'we were never that close'. Sounds hypocritical to me.

Likewise, I've been listening to Shane McGowan or Lemmy Kilmister or Captain Beefheart or Jonathan Richman pretty much my whole life. If someone told me they were domestic abusers, I don't think it'd change my relationship with their music. Some contemporary Russian writers I admire (Pelevin or Sorokin); how would I react if they said some batbrick crazy things about the war, for instance?

The difference here is we have no ties at all with De Zerbi, of course. But I do wonder if there's a moral line that would make me say 'no more'. I think it's a very intriguing and personal topic, which certainly explains why so many people react strongly about it.

As much as I am an advocate for the long term contract for the right man, I just don't think he is the right man

I think almost everyone will have a line, but as you say it will be personal. It's OK that we don't all draw the line in the same place.

The only thing that really matters is if he can be the solution for the next 7 games. Us ripping up a long term contract and carrying on the managerial merry go round is nothing new, it would be a cheap thing to go through if he keeps us up. From a current player personnel thing I can actaully see him working

You have to wonder why he apparently wasn't interested in taking over when Frank was sacked, but is now. Perhaps the promise of a 5 year contract was what was required for him to consider and right now we need him way more than he needs us....

He wasn’t interested a few weeks ago seemingly not interested a few days ago but now throwing a 5 year contract at him and he’s interested. Shows desperation and not sure if he’s coming for the right reasons.

Has us over a barrel. Can’t blame him really, if I were him I’d demand a high paying long contract knowing full well I’m not seeing it through

I haven’t been a fan of the idea of de Zerbi as our manager since I watched him getting on like an arsehole at the side of our pitch as Brighton manager three or four years ago.

That said, the idea that we wouldn’t employ him because he played a player who wasn’t found guilty of anything in a court of law seems odd to me.

I know little about the Greenwood ‘case’ (if case is the right word given he never stood trial), but I am not a fan of young people being binned off forever because of mistakes they may have made; particularly, given what I can pick up on here, that it would appear from the statement United issued that he expressed regret, and given that he has resumed a serious relationship - and gone on to have a family - with the woman at the centre of the allegations.

I still think De Zerbi is a bit of an arsehole, and that it would all eventually end in tears; but him playing Mason Greenwood is for me no reason for him not to be our manager. After all, we’ve got a convicted felon (recently pardoned by his pal - and convicted abuser of women - Donald Trump) as an owner; and, as someone else has pointed out, we frequently welcome back Paul Gascoigne (who has admitted assaulting his ex-wife) as a hero.

Only my thoughts, and I’m definitely not an expert on what went on - but I think it’s a bit late to consider our club as any sort of paragon of moral virtue within what has become a very dirty industry.
Yeah, RDZ didn’t exactly cover himself with glory around that game, if I remember correctly he got spiky with Stellini over something he’d said in the press conference the day before. But we benefited from a couple of outrageous refereeing decisions (for a change) that day and that probably tipped him over the edge.
Of the potential candidates available RDZ looks like someone who could possibly drag us to safety. I don’t think there’s any point in looking beyond the next 2 months. He doesn’t seem particularly likeable but from a self-preservation perspective it’s hard to think of a better candidate. But anyone - including RDZ - is a desperate gamble at this stage.

What viable managers are coming to this club for nice fluffy reasons and not primarily enticed by the money? The reality is we aren't an attractive option right now....

If anyone is at all entertaining the idea of having RDZ at the club, read through this and have a good, long think.

TRIGGER WARNING:

Mason: Move your fudging legs up! Harriet: No! I don't want to have sex! M: I don't give a fudge what you want, you little brick. H: Mason! M: Shut up. Stop talking to me. Stop! H: Stop putting your dingdong near me. M: I'm going to fudge you, you taco! H: I don't want to have sex with you! M: I don't care if you don't want fudging sex with me, do you hear me? H: Why do you have to do this, though? M: Cause Iasked you politely and you wouldn't do it! H: (Inaudible. Something about sex with other people?) M: asked you politely and you wouldn't do it so what else do you want me to do? H: Then go and fudge someone else. M: I don't want to fudge someone else! H: You do. M: No I don't. M: Push me again one more time and watch what happens to you. H: No. M: Well, you will actually

Yeah its bizarre. Marseille own the player, they will expect De Zerbi to play him. All the evangalists on this forum...if their work colleague was accussed of beating up their girlfriend then the CPS dropped all charges, if they said to their boss "I am refusing to work with this person" what would they expect the reaction to be?
I didn't realise her initials were CPS

The debate should be sitting with owners rightly or wrongly bringing in a player to a club with question marks around his character. It is not the manager's job to take the moral high ground regarding selecting a player whose bosses have chosen to spend money bring into the squad, especially one not convicted.

It is quite a reach tbh.....

I very much doubt the club are that stupid that we wouldn’t have a clause to the contract that states if we go down he leaves without a payout. On the flip side i would imagine in this alleged 5 year contract it will have a goal that if not met, we can part ways, i.e getting in the top 4 within 2 years etc.

I didn’t realise RDZ was there recording it.

Not overly keen on DZ.
Wanted an 'out clause' if we went down so we should've walked away.
Said it before we should get Redknapp to oversee things with possibly Mason, Sherwood, Hughton, etc. helping.
Mate at work even suggested Ange which seems crazy but we are desperate.
Not sure DZ coming in with his personality will work.
