Cristian Romero

And all because of Cristian Romero eh?

I get it. You and @Bishop and now @monkeybarry too are 'enjoying' a bit of a hubristic 'kick 'em while they're down' and take a few others with him' moment...but I personally (and hey, maybe it is only me) tedious.
Not to mention lop-sided and inaccurate.
He has won a World Cup, two Copa America's and a Europa League.
He is a fuc-king player whether you like it or not.
Perhaps ask why we as a football club require him to be our lead butcher, baker and candlefukkingstickmaker (i.e. playmaker, passer and defender)?

What do you think about him for the second goal today? I’ve been a Romero fan, but for me he is unforgivable for that second goal.

Yes mate, he's our starting CB, our fudging captain, the sole constant in our brick defensive record.

In fairness, once I saw that you had written 'I hate him' I decided to delete the original post as it won't get us chuffing the peace pipe together LOL!!!!

Let's hope we stay up AND the appropriate and best resolution for this unfortunate situation comes along in the summer!

p.s. IF that peace pipe has some of the good stuff in it, maybe we should!!!!!!!

I agree, he was poor both then and I have to say, his curious jog back having lost the ball in front of the ways fans to Sangere had me shaking my head in dismay.

I’m sure Cuti wouldn’t dare track back so languidly when playing for his beloved national team…

Romero seemed more interested in trying to attack than defend yesterday, presumably hoping to score a goal that would grab some headlines which might catch the eye of someone at Real Madrid so he can join Dragusin there this summer!

Our captain everyone
The one where he lost the ball, fell on the ground, and then took the best part of a minute to get back in position was worse. He's a disgrace and has shown he doesn't care.

@thfcsteff

Why would I enjoy this moment? Fundementally I just don't rate him as highly as you do. You think he's levels above what I see.

I've always made my doubts clear, this isn't something new related to his performances this season. As you know I just have higher standards and expectations than you do and I don't allow myself to be blinded by "loyalty" when I'm actually evaluating the qualities of a player.

I think Romero is a good player but that isn't usually the claim on here. The claim is that he's world class or better than the likes of Toby which is crazy talk as far as I'm concerned.

While I am a big Romero fan (probably because I used to play CB and like those with that extra competitive edge), I have to admit that his inconsistency in performances is a big issue.

It's easy to say he plays better when he's surrounded by better quality players, or when he plays in cup finals, but that isn't what we pay him for. We need him to be our rock...the guy you can rely on for big performances at the most necessary times and not just when it suits him. He has the ability to dictate a game more so than anyone else in our squad with his line-breaking passes but he needs to take care of his most important responsibility first. We need the guy who turned up in the EL final instead of this version we are seeing.

However, the number of times our entire team has engaged in ball-watching when defending this season has been infuriating. There have been times when we have had eight or more players in the box and several opposition attackers going completely unmarked. Romero isn't alone in this by a long shot but as the captain he should be calling it out.

It's hard to keep supporting him when things like this happening...

That second goal was unforgivable yesterday.

As soon as I saw MGW drift off our midfield to receive the ball from his defender I thought this could be trouble.

For him to then do nothing specially good to move himself to near the penalty spot to slot home with ease is a dereliction of duty from a number of players.
The urgency to smell danger or just spot what the fudge is going on around them is striking. Romero the chief culprit in that goal.

As you say the ball watching is a problem. We often have the numbers back but marking space and just not switched on. It's sad.
