Igor the Interim

Thats where I am with it, I think we can all make as many statements as we like as fans or say who we want and make predictions on what would have should we appoint Harry and a band of ex players, but in reality given our situation, they outcome would be equally tough.

He has my backing because he is here and I am under no illusion how tough this job is currently, it was and still is a massive ask
Yeah, I think he's probably earned the Forest game at least and the whole stadium should be behind him and the team. Thought he played a massive part in that result today so I have to give credit where it is due. From the selection (Souza RM and Djed LB looked nuts to me but it worked), to the tactics, to the subs (I can't be the only one who rolled their eyes at Muani entering the fray).

If he gets us out of jail, I'll happily admit I was gloriously wrong. Some very good signs today, let's hope we carry it into next week and beyond.

This squad is patently better than the position it's in, which I would put at the door of Levy and Vinai ultimately - we tried to move from front foot to pragmatic football without adding any real quality bar Xavi, who if we do survive this will come good.

Romero is a better footballer by far than Dragusin but as a couple of people have said Cuti and also VDV look like they are not up for the fight. Micky especially has that face all game, and some of the quotes about avoiding his phone tell you all you need to hear.

I could be wrong and they may get going if the team they come back to has some momentum, but considering they are our leadership group, along with a very quiet madders on social media, we feel like we are depending on the Latin fire of Porro to get us going, and the consistency of Archie gray. Who by the way is going to be fantastic.

Not just probably. Would imo be really weird to sack him now. Got a performance out of a depleted squad, team also showed good resilience and fight in the CL game after the calamity of the opening 15-20 minutes (which definitely wasn't on Tudor).

There will be at the very least a bit of belief and confidence now. Need to build on that.

A question that's perhaps more for the future, right now the focus is obviously only survival in the PL.

But could this be a good learning experience for some of these players. It's probably the biggest mess any of them have faced in footballing terms. The pressure of a club our size potentially going down. The injuries. The absolute shattering of form and confidence. I think it's only normal that at least some players will respond in negative ways. Could they learn from this in a way that could prove useful in the future?

To me Cuti looks up for the fight. But the previous issues of discipline and rahsness have worsened and for sure that's been an issue now. Can he learn from this?

VdV seemed to lose his head a bit. The red card, what should have been a red card. Really liked his most recent comment though. Can he learn from this?

I think this can be an experience to learn from if we manage to stay up.

I think the view that he should have gone was perfectly reasonable in the context of those performances. Those were 4 terrible losses and I mean awful. Palace fans I was speaking to after the game thought we were nailed on to go down. Today marked something of a sea change in tactics and performance and we got a point. But I am still nervous as hell about which team turns up next weekend? The shambolic one of the previous 4 games or today’s. I hope he builds on today. If we do stay up, I will be the first to thank Igor.
I hope getting a late equaliser, stopping the run of defeats and getting a result through hard work will help change things a bit.

I actually think this game could have quite easily been another of those "shambolic" defeats. We started quite well, then they score - you could feel it. The fragile traces of confidence and belief disappearing. We started playing worse. But this time we weren't punished again. They didn't take the chances they did create (not that many), we didn't fudge up in a way that lead to a goal. Had they gotten the second I think the likelihood of this being another "shambolic" game would be very high.

Those are imo the fine margins in a situation like this. Always fine margins in football, but in a situation like this even more so because the drop in confidence and belief can be so massive from one or two key situations.

We had that bit of luck in this game, or the that bit of absence of bad luck. We need that. We've needed that for quite a while. Any manager in a situation like this needs that imo.

To me it wasn't 4 game shambolic then this one being different. There were differences for sure, some chosen, some forced. I hope we stick with some of those changes. But the main difference was we didn't fudge up with individual mistakes, we had a bit of luck, we got the chance to show that we can fight for it given the chance.

Reverse the slips from the CL game and this and I think we see opposite results too, and the performances being seen as shambolic or not would be opposite too.

Isn't he not far off enough suspension....1 or 2 yellows away?.
2 I think? And for any CB that can easily lead to a suspension, even more so a CB like him.

Need him to regain what he showed last season. But the risk of another suspension will be there regardless. If we can build on the Liverpool result another suspension from him will be less impactful soon enough, particularly if we play with a back 4.

I think VDV and Romero have checked out. We looked better without them.
VDV believes his own hype.

I'm sure he will get his move to Barca, whoever, but I think he will get found out quickly at CB

I wouldn't have him in the squad for the rest of the season.

I'm not sure why, but I think Romero might be more of a professional, however wise he would be having the same treatment.

But both have been sulking most of the season

Amazing what a performance like that can do for fans and players alike.

I gave us no chance before yesterday… now I have some hope
It is amazing.
I've been convinced/resigned to us going down for a few weeks but yesterday has flipped everything.
It wasn't pretty or some world beating display but it was solid and showed fight, and to do it at Anfield with the history of this fixture is actually quite impressive considering how fragile we've looked.

Definitely not against Tudor sticking to a back 4 now.

But more importantly needs to keep picking players who show themselves capable of showing up in the right mental state in these circumstances. The 11 who started against Liverpool, but to me also Palhina, Romero and Gallagher at the very least. Hopefully more to add to that list?

I think that’s harsh on VdV. None of us can know what’s going on in his head. Either way, I think we all need to be behind him and every other player until we get out of this mess.

Amazing that a decent performance came with going back to 442 and bar Souza and Spence (who plays LB regularly enough) playing people in their normal positions, sometimes it really is that simple.

I'd play Romero and Danso at CB on Sunday and VDV LB.

Liverpool were not great but our defensive shape was definitely better than in recent games. Dragusin is not great with the ball at his feet but he is a good "old fashioned" defender who is decent in the air. Danso the same. I also thought the two up front gave the Liverpool back 4 a torrid time. Thought Tel and Sousa were good too. So when we went 0-1 down but continued to create chances while defending pretty well, I was less worried than in previous games. So for me, there were definite green shoots. Hopefully continues next week. And if he keeps us up, I for one will be singing Igor's name.

One of the positives from yesterday is that Tudor admitted he simplified things. It's not necessarily good news in the long run because you'd expect professionals to be able to use his system but credit to him to be willing to do what it takes to get results, despite not having his assistant with him.

We've talked about the players but regardless of what happens, it takes a lot of character to keep going as a manager after all the ridicule and disappointments we've had to endure over the past few weeks.

Another positive aspect is that we outran Liverpool. It's not a feat that will live on forever, but it might be a sign that the physical work done on the training ground is beginning to pay off (hopefully).
