Transfer Forum Now Open

We have already signed Melia, so that's 1 in already!

But I hope can shift players on quickly, if Frank doesn't want them, find someone who does.

Outgoings will be important, particularly for squad registration reasons.

Hopefully some real money and intent in this window, we surely need a bit more to get excited about on the pitch.

Going by rumours a left winger seems like the biggest priority. For me the dream signing would still be a properly good deep playmaker. I think Frank wants a left winger who can be that ball progression player on the left that Kudus is on the right.

Hope we continue down the path of prioritising technical quality highly, ideally in combination with physical attributes of course. And while what the manager wants obviously matters greatly if we invest big money it imo has to be with a clear plan to be a player that can do well with or without Frank and the current approach.

Remember how people said to be a serious club you need to pay whatever is required for the 'top' bracket of player?.. and we were accused under Levy of not being prepared to spend big money on a single player...

Fast forward a few months and the two biggest names from the summer striker market Sesko and Gyokeres have both failed to live up to the hype.

I think it just shows how important proper scouting and transfer strategy is. I mean we are all convinced Wharton is worth every penny we would need to pay but those big fees are not the guarantee you'd assume.

Would be quite happy with 2 in and 4/5 out to clear the decks ahead of summer.

Biss
Johnson
Davies
Scarlett
Tel

Are seemingly on the way out on a loan/being sold , Dragon maybe as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a couple of shock departures if we can get a replacement in

Vicario maybe

Also, history shows our best recent signings are not big money signings

I think we'll keep Tel and Dragusin - they will both get plenty of minutes through the spring. I think Takai (loan) might be the surprise departure

I was wondering where Levy went after his dismissal … he couldn’t do any wrong and a few examples like Sesko and Gykores proves this entirely.

The problem with your premise is that neither of those players were actually top bracket. So both signings are gambles hoping to unearth a top quality player, with Sesko it was always known he wouldn't hit the ground running and honestly might never really make it to the very top level. He was a very speculative buy.

Gyokeres had loads of doubts, again I don't know how you can think of him as a top bracket player to be honest.

I would argue that technically competent, and physically able players are the most adaptable and suitable style players for most systems. Theres more chance of a player working long term regardless of whom the current coach is if they are highly technically competent and physically able to exert those abilities and most coaches would find a use for them no matter the system.

They were the 2 most sought after strikers in the Summer though. Maybe it was a bit of a barren window for star signings but everyone thought they were the 2 best available strikers out there.

We are linked with the Porto striker and being quoted 80+ million and I doubt many on here know anything much about him. Good strikers are hard to find nowadays. Gyokeres had 100 odd goals in just 2 seasons! Yes it was Portugal but that included a decent record in CL games.

I just mean, are we better off focusing on scouting and looking at the next big thing or going for the so called best available players and paying a premium. Arsenal and United both thought they were paying extra for a more guaranteed return but its still a lottery aint it?
