Mathys Tel

Kulu is very similar to Kudus in playing style, strong and a quick shift of the ball round the defender to get a cross or pass in. Think playing him on the left is a good option.
Kulu has no pace. Its why powering through crowded areas from ACM or narrow RW suit him best. I think he'd be dreadful trying to go round the outside from the left.

Take it to the Kulusevski thread lads!

Tel seems to have a really strong personality, speaking to the fans last year to get them off Ange’s back, racial abuse online and bouncing back from no CL football before Christmas,.. I just find him really likeable.

He is still a kid and needs to be given a bit more playing time before a definitive judgement can be made about him.

I liked what I saw yesterday and hopefully he will build on that.

I hope we do. I don't buy into this concept that Kulu can't play on the left. Now we have our LB playing in the wide areas, it could be the make it work. Kulu and Xavi could interchange like Eriksen and Dele did.
I don't think it works because Kulu isn't really a crosser nor is he even really a wide player. He's a central attacker and his play style suits that best. I think he'd be quite lost out on the left, trying to dribble on the outside and then trying to cross it in? Kulu actually thrives best when he has others to play off. Getting good minutes for him and Xavi is a conundrum but a good one to have as we've never had attacking midfielder depth, not during Poch's time and never since. I don't see the left hand side as a good long term solution.

What impressed me most today was that instinctive push of the ball to the right to take it further away from the defender and the quick follow-up shot. It was the speed of those 2 things together that made the goal in my opinion. In that moment he looked like a quality centre forward.
Absolutely. And in combination with slowing down before that instead of just running at full speed the entire time.

I guess we get to find out. Eriksen always played tucked in on the right with Walker owning the outside space. I'm just not sure why Kulu couldn't do the same.

EDIT: typed left when I meant right. Corrected

Do you mean Rose? Don’t remember Waller playing for us on the left!

Sorry, I meant right but Poch did the same thing on the left for Sonny. Corrected above.

It just depends how much width Frank wants from Udogie on the left and whether that is balancing Kudus natural width on the right. We found with Ange having 2 really wide players leaves gaps elsewhere. Poch got his width from the full-backs and that created for Erisken, Dele, Dembele, Sonny and Kane to be destructive. I would say neither Walker or Rose had great delivery from wide areas but the system was lethal.
