Eberechi Eze

13 pages in 3 hours! What's happened to this place? I expect the meltdown on twitter etc. (I swear some of the regulars on there are actually enjoying this because it gives more oomph to their Levy out campaign).
If he is indeed Woolwich bound and was holding out for them to come in with a bid then good riddance.
Sounds like we may have been played here but not sure what else we could have done (bid the release clause fee and Woolwich just come in and match it anyway).
Let's see what happens tomorrow. If it's dead we move on to the next target.
I’m gutted, I really like(d) Eze, but some of the stuff posted tonight… blimey!!

I would like to think this isn’t copium, but I hope Steff is right about Frank’s preferences. And I think that maybe Eze is choosing Arsenal in part because maybe he knew Frank needed some convincing? Otherwise, I’d find it odd that a player would immediately prefer to join the club that came it at the last moment, potentially motivated by an injury to one of their players.

Not withstanding whether Arsenal are better than us, which they clearly have been for a few years. Mbuemo wanted United because they clearly wanted him, and we wanted Kudus. Arsenal have definitely worked at it a while, and good on them. I really do hope we have our ideal signings lined up and ready to go.

I just hope that if this all turns out to be gonads, which it still could, and he signs for us the same supporters crying about him joining arsenal don't start on about him being a gooner or that he only came here because arsenal didn’t want him.

You all crying over a player that doesn't want to join us? why the fudge would we want him if he has no interest and would rather join the clams down the road? fudge him and them, they don't even need him. He will be on loan at Everton in 2/3 years.
Cant you say this about every player that has joined Spurs? When Kudus was signing and RealMadrid had gone for him…

But ok, he did not sign… cant do anything about it now.
Some days p@rn are needed more than other days

Maddison got injured weeks ago. How the fudge are we even in this position?

Everything is just treading water, doing the absolute minimum until we sack another coach and go through the whole cycle again. fudge Levy and the board.
Because football transfers are complicated and you don’t just spunk 60 or 70 million pounds in reaction to something.

This is frustrating but we’ve missed out on a player who wants to play for Arsenal. Not the end of the world. I’ve seen people say “this has to be the end for Levy”. I mean, come on. We’ve missed out on a lad from Crystal Palace. Life will go on.

Why wouldn’t Thomas Frank have wanted Eze? It doesn’t make any sense to me. One of the very best players outside of the top six clubs. A player that could have immediately come in and been our midfield catalyst and attacking midfielder. He has a good character and a good brain (though that last one is debatable after signing for Arsenal). Yet some in here say that Thomas Frank wouldn’t have wanted him??

So on that basis, Kudus was just a lad from West Ham?! Yet he’s arguably our best attacking player right now.

Exactly. Its not the Eze deal and FYI, we were clearly after a 10 before Maddison got injured. Because we are in the CL and can Madders play in every game anyway? We went in for MGW before the injury right? Add in the injury and the mess we are in is unforgivable. Just watched an Ali Gold video and he nailed it for me. Yeah Palace wanted time to get a replacement. Yeah Palace wanted him to play in their Euro qualifier. That's because we've low balled then worked our way up to the minimum terms they'd do business on. Which is understandable in normal circumstances- BUT - If you are a proper big club and you know theres potential rival interest and your starting 10 has just been crocked you go in hard and get it done early. Yeah they'd do business at £55m plus add ons while stalling and saying they'd ratify it after the game and after they'd got a replacement. We should have said £70m if he has the medical and signs tomorrow.

Don’t get me wrong. I wanted Eze. It’s hardly the end of the world though is it?

It’s certainly not. I had some reservations, although I do think he would have been a good addition overall.

I think it’s more to do with where it leaves us.

We seem to have wasted a lot of time on this; it comes off the back of the MGW scenario; and it is the latest in a long line of high profile transfers that we have been involved with which stalled at a seemingly very advanced stage.

I keep hearing about the outstanding negotiating skills we have when involved in these deals; about the new arrivals on the board who are taking us to the next level…and yet it looks like we have, at best, been massively played here, and knocked out of the park by the Forest chairman earlier in the window.

It doesn’t look or feel great.

We just sacked a manager who won a cup because he couldn’t compete in all competitions. The chairman said we want to be winning the biggest competitions. We’ve now missed out on 2 of our biggest targets.

The manager once again let down by the board who cannot put together a squad required to do what they ask of it.

We are a club constantly doing the bare minimum and not actually going for it. We have no identity, no proper idea of what we want to be.

1) We need a passer for 10, not a dribbler

2) And he's not elite at pressing or physicality, which again Frank seems to want from his AMs

It's not to say Eze isn't a good player. Just it felt like we'd be crowbarring him in a bit
