Lib Dems have a slick well funded operation oiled over decades. Up until recently Reform was literally just Farage and a couple of friends in terms of the actual party infrastructure.

And answered your questions including on Ed Davey.............who despite some PR in a lead up to an election actually serves the people pretty well (and again I am no fan but I am not going to lie about someone doing their job)

Farage has one of the worst attendance and voting record in all of politics, thats not hating on him because I think he is ghastly its because I think beyond PR he has no interest in serving the people who voted him. Call me old fashioned but I think politics is bottom up and MPs have a duty to serve those who vote them in at a local level.

One of the worst attendance record and voting records in all of politics? He's only been an MP for about a year...and how do you know what Ed Davey's record on serving his constituents is? As you said you couldn't really find anything about him holding surgeries and his own website says he's too busy to do so and can only see people by advance appointment (a surgery is an open session with whoever can turn up)....which you said "is fair enough". Fair enough for Davey, but unacceptable for Farage eh?

Well you would think he would want to hit the ground running given the noise but that aside "politics" also extends to his record as MEP which gained him the moniker as the "laziest politician in Europe"

He literally came second bottom for voting record in the EU, given his concern and outward projections you would have thought he would be more active on the issues that concern him............then again

The issue is that most people (based on what I hear around me) actually have no idea what their MP does for local constituents and equally have no interest or knowledge of what their MP does at Westminster. Elections come around and voting decisions are made at party level and based on national issues, not local issues, and in response to media campaigns. (Same really for local gov elections as well). So if Farage does not hold a surgery meeting between now and the next general election, and misses more Westminster votes than he attends, most people won’t care/be aware. That’s why this government needs to find a way to show they understand people’s concerns and have viable solutions - but without pandering to the racist and bigoted views of those people. Not an easy path to navigate.

Take Farage out of this because its clearly a divisive topic but this is my biggest belief in politics.

Politics should be bottom up, the best MPs with the best interests for the local community get voted in and the government is formed with people who care. I always implore people to seek out records of who has been active, who has tried to get people like homeless housed or help local businesses and not just for photo opps. There are some amazing ground level politicians who spend their lives working on local issues, that for me is old school politics. Maybe the landscapes changed, seems to be the age of social media where people can make massive promises without delivery and that wins hearts and minds, bit people telling people "we will stop boats" doesn't deal with local issue which make up a large portion of peoples daily lives.

Worth a listen.

Churchill was not elected as premier for war period he took over from Chambetlain, his election was after the population weren't happy that the Labour government failed to rebuild Britain after the war in a few weeks.

The Thick of It famously took a real life scenario where the MP blatantly tries to fob someone off about a brick wall in the garden, yes they took creative licence but I read a piece where the writers said that you can fool people to vote for you at the top level, but in the end your lack of substance at ground level will find you out.

He got voted in as an MEP of a party that aimed to leave the EU and held the European parliament in contempt.

Why would you vote on anything put before the European Parliament when you hate the entire concept of European legislation and everyone that put you in that position feels the same way? Plus as per the video he felt the gravy chain of being given a solid £900 for just turning up regardless of your travel expenses was an absolute scam ripping off voters - It has absolutely every bearing on his voting record ...

Can't remember which episode...it wasn't something they were particularly lined up to talk about...just came out in conversation. Not sure if you listen to it anyway? But it was the last couple of weeks.

It's a worthwhile listen on current politics, as is the US Rest is Politics version as well
