European semi final

I still think that on our day we are a very good team. Last night, Villa 4-1 , City 4-0 etc fully fit and motivated squad we look good.

It's quite natural that having finally got most of our players back the motivation hasn't quite been there in the league because there's nothing really to play for now there.

I was at that game and it was a brilliant game of football, i felt sick when it went to penaltys and poor old Danny Thomas missed our last Penalty as it would have won us the game if he had scored [Anderlecht had missed one earlier]. Thankfully Parks won it for us with his save. What a night that was.

Loved how the crowd sung his name after he missed. Our current crop of supporters could learn a thing or two from that!

Of course, no one thinks where we are and will finish is acceptable. But for me one of the most important things is whether he and the whole medical staff have learnt from the injury nightmare we went through, because as much as people want to complain about his tactics that is what really killed us.

We was well within reach of the European spots before that happened, and the sheer volume of injuries just did for us - any team would struggle, in a typical season you would be able to field at least 80% of your first eleven for the majority of the season, we didnt get close to that opportunity. Having our first choice back 5 available and we are so much better, how many games have they played together this season? Of course injuries happen but not to anywhere near what we have experienced - get that rectified and that is a big part of the battle won already. That's not me saying Ange doesn't have things to work on, but this is his first time in a top level league so there was always going to be bumps and a learning curve just as there is with players new to the PL. If he continues to show progress in EL games (I've written off a he PL ones because he won't play anywhere near our first team for us to properly judge) then I'm open to him continuing because I don't think he is quite the 'chancer' some like to portray....
Again very fair. My view differs though insofar as I believe the tactics played exacerbated the injuries resulting in where we are in the League and the domestic tournaments. He wants to play a certain way and that way is not sustainable. Last night was not his preferred playing system, but he knew his back was against the wall. It was win or basically he was done. So he played a similar way to the Liverpool home leg which followed that 6-3 home loss and there were question marks over his ability to avoid humiliation. I am sure he will revert to his preferred playing system when he doesn’t feel the pressure and unless he tweaks it we will be back here next season. That’s why for me, yesterday’s result doesn’t change my view on him and his ability to succeed here. But nonetheless, I would still love for us to win the Europa League. Bloody hell it’s about time and our squad is good enough imho.

Indeed, he was in tears Danny as he walked back to the dugout after his penalty and he was clapping the fans when they were singing his name. He was such a good player and it was sad when he had to quit the game because of injury at such a early age.

There's currently a shortage of trains after a rock slide caused a derailment last year. The sleeper isn't a sleeper, there's a 9 hour stop in a town during the night.
Thanks for the info. Have seen there are trains but reduced service. Prob won’t post much more about it as still deciding and it might sell out 😝

Sad to hear that - I didn't know. I wish for us fans in general to just be more warm towards the players and our club, especially when we're there with them, just go out of our way to support them instead of the endless moaning (yes, I realize I am moaning about moaning now). Imagine that. 60k people just backing their team every game come winter or spring, whatever - what a difference it would make! What would it take for that to happen? We were all so amped up for the giant South Stand, and then moan when there is no atmosphere - well, if you're at the match, you ARE the atmosphere! So frustrating. I don't like the droning of the German fans, for instance, but they do have those supporter leader guys starting songs with their megaphones - I wouldn't mind a couple of those at our games, that is if the English conservatism would accept and allow it - English fans are fudging stale when it comes to changes, yeah? "We've done this since the 40's, so it should always be this way".

Haha, I'm ranting now, sorry. Just really touched by watching the support Thomas got. Lovely to see.

Went to his testimonial.

Will ange get some credit now or is still up for the sack
he'll get the same objectivity as always.

Great job in EL.
Terrible job in PL.

Stays whilst we're in EL.
Goes as soon as we're not/end of season.

Isn't up to the job of the PL.
No shame in that - far better than him have tried and failed, it's very tough and unforgiving.

Absolutely disgusting tackle by some goon called Maguire back in the time when it was ok for thugs like Fashanu and Jones to deliberately injury our players.
