I think if we are to really to have the funds to go for 3 costly signings in the summer, Romero would have to be sold.

Although winning the EL and qualifying for the CL would potentially change that conversation.

Well I would like to think before anyone was sold we would have a flat 100m in the market, given previous seasons, maybe slightly more. If we trimmed the fat I think we could do useful work in the market. I love Romero but given I also don't think anyone can defend in the game anymore I would be ok with a reshuffle if needed. I actually also really rate what I have seen from Danso.

He is announced as CEO…. The top job.

I suspect Munn will depart (I hope so).
Firstly, how on earth do you know what Munn has done, it's possible when the board sat down to pick the new manager, everyone was 100% for Ange, apart from him, but he went with the majority.

Two, we are looking for an attacking manager with a potential to win the league. We need to take a risk to get there (see Ange). This one may not have worked but hopefully the next one, or the one after will.

All the names being banded about at the moment could get us top four/six, and then how long until the same experts are telling us, he's taken us as far as he can? Does Munn get sacked for that too?

Looking at our financials i don't see it. Our cash went down around £100m and our debt went up by about the same. We've had extra games from europe this season that might help.

Yeh maybe, but that would mean our spending would dramatically fall off a cliff given recent years, maybe it will. We still have squad leverage to make moves though, hopefully hahah

Romero should be sold
As good as he can be, no player should be available for over 90% of his countries games and 50% of his clubs
Issue is we will value him at a price relevant to how some people rate him and no club (IMO) will pay that

I have a feeling there wouldn't be anyone in the PL interested in Romero.
So you're left with foreign clubs that have money (if we want £70m)...a very very small group.

Well we have a set of figures from the most recent accounts that now reflect what you may call a 'bare minimum' season.
The outlier that has to be noted, is we sold a player for £100m in that period.

We owe A LOT in outstanding transfer fees.

So I'd imagine that the kitty fund would be 60-70m then topped up with any player trading profits.

In what universe is Romero our biggest problem?
A few injuries and a bad patch of form. But the blokes won everything internationally and is one of the best defenders in the world, with the caveat that its modern defending and no one bar maybe 4 in the world can defend in the traditional sense. 4 International trophies, 26, Serie A defender of year, was our best defender the year he joined, PL team of the year that year for many. Teams don't prejudice against players like fans do, which is key, if he left he would go to any of the top teams.

Let’s see if any of the top teams try to buy him
The problem remains he plays just over 50% of his clubs games and 95% of his countries
That won’t be appealing to a potential buying club for the fee will want

The injury point is of course an issue but no doubt in my mind a Inter, Real, Barce, City take him. Watching City the last few games he would get in their side without a doubt in my mind currently. He would also be a Pep player.

Lenglet has played 18 times this season for Athletico, like a few roles, there is a massive gap for good defenders in the world

Huge gap
Is he a good defender? He is a great ball player
I think they will say we would like him but not for £75m
We shall see this summer
The club will IMO be putting the word out because of his contract
He won’t sign a new one here so the club have to do what they can to sell him
And he isn’t one of the issues as lemonade said. Big he is a way to make money and also get in a player who is “robust enough” to play in this league

I am a massive fan because he is obviously a very good player, so sell him or not, I am ok with it. But he goes to a big club, fee aside, would wager against anyone in that respect.

As I’ve said, I don’t see anyone the he want to go to being willing to pay the money
The clubs you mentioned earlier have various issues and challenges
Real haven’t brought an older expensive player since hazard
Atletico lose money every season and are stretched on their wages
City brought in the CBs in January. I don’t see them going again for more .. but it’s city
Inter… really. Italy hasn’t got the money and hasn’t had for a long time
We’re likely talking an expectation of £75m or €87m…. That’s a huge sum for a player who has shown his struggles fl stay fit for his club and he would likely want £250k a week
So we will see
I think smart club will look younger players which is the trend now. Huijsen at Bournemouth is very favoured according to the rumours and really the only rumours around Romero are generated by spurs fans

He isn't old though, he is 26 TBF, thats not old. They have taking in players of that age and older, ok some on a free but Rudiger is now 32, its an area they need someone of the profile and ability of Romero and he is every bit a player for a club like Real.

Anyway we can go back and forth all day long on it, neither of us truly know what the markets will do, Inter spent 80m last year only recooping about 5 last year, they have players who will be getting itchy feet who would fetch massive money in other markets to bolster their market. Just to be clear, I am not saying he will go to Inter but no one knows what going to happen IAO

Will leave it there, ultimately he is good enough to go to the top teams, thats my point, I will leave the ifs and buts to the footballing gods

Clubs can and will sell of course
But Madrid got their fingers burnt with hazard and steered well clear now of older players with injury records
And for you and I 26 isn’t old. But clubs are looking for their players to fit a profile
So we shall see
My guess is we will sell him in 26 for about £20m because he will have one year left and the fans will berate the club

Contract length is obviously relevant.

But in a market where players like Tel and Johnson are valued at 50m ish, proven PL performers like Romero should be going for considerably more.
Age skews things massively now. Under 23s go for huge amounts, but no one will pay anything once a player hits about 26.

Levy's sell-on value mindset has gone global
