Effectively, ranking points are earned and the bigger tournaments carry more points, some are also seeded. A player with a bit of success behind them will take years to drop down the rankings.

I was referring more to the structure of the game and where players came from. Some do come from nowhere but most will step through the organised tiers.

...but a lot poorer. Say Spurs went bust tomorrow - the money which I spend on football today, wouldnt be spend on football going forward. My eyeballs watching football (which is linked to advertising so the size of TV rights) wouldnt watch football (as much). Now multiply that by all fans of the 6 break-away teams and you see how much poorer the PL will be.

The new top teams wont be able to afford players from ESL teams, won't be able to repay debts,....the major leagues just arent credible without the top teams. The biggest teams would be a lot smaller than the big teams today.

Its why i think there will be a middle ground found. The leagues and UEFA need the top teams, and I'm sure the 12 teams would prefer to retain their links with their leagues and not **** off some f a ns

It could mean a deeper hit generally, if it was essentially a closed shop it would effectively be a different sport, with no viable path to "wining football" would people stand by their clubs?

I like the pinnacle of sports, I'm interested in "the best", I don't care who wins the Formula E or F2, F1 is track motor racing, that's what I follow, if Spurs were locked out I'd lose interest.

I agree with you, UEFA will have to come to an agreement because they are completely fudged without those clubs.

That will not be on the table - this is a divorce where we are walking away from our ancestral home and family to go live on a small island populated by clams, with just a pocketful of bitcoins.

is it our ancestral home, we didn't join the football league until we were 30 odd years in did we?
 
Must have been so nice to have been a football/Spurs fan through the 60's-80s when football and competition was real ( and we were good). Not only is this idea absolutely everything wrong with modern football but it's cringe worthy that we have been invited when we haven't won the title in 60 years. Top 4 getting into the ' Champions' League is bad enough but this ....

Mid-week league, not a breakaway, plans for clubs to stay in their domestic leagues.

I’m sorry you feel that way. Spurs have certainly provided me with a lot of joy and memorable moments in recent years. No trophies? That’s life for 99% of football clubs. Always has been, always will be. So why have they and we all kept going for 100+ years? There are still moments of joy, hope, brilliance and togetherness. Be that a CL semi or a championship playoff.

No, everything is not fudged, there are many aspects worth keeping, conserving and building from. This super league nonsense tinkles all over that, purely for financial motives.

Also: We would be fighting it out with Arsenal for the «who’s worst in the super league» trophy. Doesn’t sound very glamorous.
 
Don't like it one bit but rather be in than out. They aren't abandoning their domestic leagues. They're aiming to replace the CL.

So one competition focused on generating as much money as possible replaces another. I'm against it because its no longer a meritocracy but its actually not that seismic a shift.

Be interesting to see if the PL stick with the threat to throw these clubs out. Can't see it personally. It'd be damaging for everyone involved and that sort of self destruction tends to find a solution with the amount of money involved.

It's a dirty business for sure. But the competition still remains - anyone can get promoted or relegated; it's not a closed shop.
The new super lge is a closed shop based on money alone, not sporting performance.

I'll probably watch some games to enjoy the skill.
But I'm done - time to concentrate on real sports, like netball.

Wouldn’t be surprised if some clubs back out due to public condemnation like they did with the furlough scheme.

ironic that ourselves, Emirates Marketing Project and Arsenal have been invited with a whopping total of zero European cups and CL titles between them.

The CL is compiled of teams that qualified via sporting achievement - it's a huge shift.

Apart from having the best stadium of course.
