He is in a way a specialist, he fits that role very well. But at the same time he's a generalist in that there are very few things he's not good at. Shooting perhaps, but other than that?

Imo he has more creativity, more purposeful passes than most or all of the other specialists we've had for that role in a long time. We need more creativity and quality on the ball next to him than we get from Sissoko, but that's not really on Hojbjerg, unless it's on Hojbjerg that he's not a quality deep playmaker.

Ndombele, Lo Celso, Winks if he can step it up another level could all be good options at some point. Perhaps Skipp.

Right now there's a shortage though.

His passing vs Brighton and Chelsea was poor
He was however the only one in those games trying some positive passes

I was definitely one who didn’t want this guy - I wanted ward prowse (who I would still take)
But he really, really has been a great signing for us and up there with the signing of son, on that he is one who kinda came with a lower bar but is reaching a higher level
So impressive

Fair game to whomever on the Transfer Committee identified this guy as being what we needed, as it’s so nice to have a box-to-box midfielder who is equally adept at shielding the defence and creating chances.

Hopefully Skipp will turn out to be a more capable understudy than Winks and Sissoko have been.
