World Cup Round of 16 - Fixtures in 1st Post

Then you let the game continue, no one has to be punished for a reaction. There is a difference between blatant diving and reactionary diving i.e. getting out the way. Robben today for his penalty dived even with the most minimalist of contacts

Agree to disagree.

Was gunna say you're talking crap but the above is more diplomatic :p

I can see why they have tried to clean the game up as teams in the 70s for example got away with some appalling tackles that would have gotten you arrested in the real world, but they've gone to far in trying to protect players.

Agreed. Good to see leg breaking challenges are now a rarity but football shouldn't be made into a non-contact sport either.

Greece got away with one there.

Yup, officials missed a clear handball

the problem i have with not awarding a penalty in the robben/marquez incident is that it would mean that we would be allowing defenders to make hurdles and obstacles when the attacker is dribbling without ever having posession of the ball.

the attacker would have to jump, hurdle and avoid the trailing leg. and thus be slowed down and forced to change his stride pattern when the defender hasnt even made contact with the ball, let alone gain posession of it.

ah ok, missed that

I can feel a "bailed out" headline coming on

The second angle is the better once, the longer version clearly shows his hand is down until the last moment when Torosidis realises that he's gone underneath the ball.

You can say Greece are boring but when they need to they do know how to pull it out the bag. Resolute.
