Where is it going wrong in attack?

This. Eriksen behind Soldado.
Wenger didnt **** about with Ozil, easing him in or picking him one week and not the next. Stuck him in the team and let him get on with it.
Eriksen and Lamela in NOW. It'll bring the sort of creative spark Townsend and Holtby will not supply with sufficient consistency.

Or compare the experiences of Lloris and Gomes. One eased in gently, acclimatised; the other thrown straight into the firing line.

We are in a position of strength - 12 wins and 1 draw from 15 this season. We've got the luxury of being able to be patient with our new young players, rather than having to gamble on them out of desperation.

All those crowing for Lamela to start a few games...think carefully about what AVB has been saying. That the players feel pressure at the Lane. Now, do you think that's the way to blood a 21 year old talent from another league and then another country besides? Perhaps if our house was a little more, errr, accommodating at all times, I'd be more inclined to agree.

I would have hoped that the atmosphere for a cup game should (and I repeat, "should') be more welcoming for those who are currently on the periphery of the team (like Lamela) than a full blooded league game, where every misplaced pass is currently met with groans and boos?

well apparently they never/rarely score in training so the results of this method are being replicated in matches :)

If they really don't score in training, then don't you think the coaches should be working on ways they CAN score? I really can't yet see any evidence of this on the pitch. It explains to a large degree why we are struggling to score goals IMO.

You ask Lamela what his preferred position is. and then you say I'm playing you there, and I'm going to play you there for the next few games, go out there enjoy yourself and show me what you can do.

And then you don't gonad him if he makes mistakes, and you give him the run of games he asked for.

After all someone must have rated him to pay all that money for him, so I think he deserves a run playing where he wants to.

How on earth is he meant to prepare the players for a situation they experience in nearly every game if they don't work on it in training?

It's not the method (which is sensible) ..it's the result that I'm commenting on. The fact that, no matter how often they do this exercise, the five attacking players never score. Which shows on the weekend.

I think we definitely need to train with 7 defenders against 5 attacking players. The attacking players keep playing until they can regularly score goals,

Agreed. I think he has set the table to be able to do that tomorrow night myself...

Did anyone really think that we would be the finished article in October?

No, not really.
But I am surprised that AVB doesn't seem to know where players like Eriksen, Lamela, Holtby and Siggy are best suited to play. I figured he would buy a player like Lamela or Eriksen, especially at that kind of money, with a specific position in mind.

Starting one game would be nice let alone a few.

I don't see what could go so horribly wrong from starting him, Lennon comes back from injury and straight away he's in the team again, doesn't send a good message to Lamela does it? He needs to learn the language but at this point as long as you know the football basics i.e. (Remember Salgado taught Beckham the Spanish for cover me as soon as he joined Madrid) take it one game at a time, the 3 points is the most important thing and Spurs have a better squad than Arsenal and that should be enough for now.

Not AVB's style, as highlighted with Lloris last year, and that did work out. The problem is the media/fans would murder Lamela/Eriksen if they were given a starting run and didn't settle in 5-8 games.

We have ****ed up people's careers before at Spurs with big price tags, high expectations and throwing them in the deep end.

Eriksen and Lamela are 21 .. in a new country, different style game with the burden of a big price tag. Taking our time with them is the right move, if we were losing every game, then we might have a case of rushing them in.

The big difference is there is only one GK spot in the team and Friedel didn't deserve to be dropped, there are 3 attacking midfielder spots.

Nothing much to lose, we are creating very little. Could replace Townsend or Lennon. Lamela has worked hard defensively, so nothing to lose there.

Could not really have less success with his shots than Townsend , so nothing to lose there. Could even play up front instead of Soldado, as long as he can take a pen, nothing much to lose there.

We have no idea what's going on behind the scenes though…

There is little doubt in my mind that Lamela was chiefly scouted by Baldini and AVB agreed but is still working out what/who he exactly has…Eriksen was a buy only because his primary buy, Willian, was stolen…Holtby is a mystery and Siggy, well, when he's played this season he's ben pretty productive.

It will take time IMV mate...

He seems to like flexibility in his players but in the case of these players/this season, I do not think that he has been moving them around. Although I am sure that once they are all settled in, he will expect to see a lot more movement and inter-play between the three behind the striker.

Let's hope so. It seems to be a case of one or the other between Holtby and Eriksen for example with Eriksen in my opinon being the fall guy for the West Ham result.

I don't think so, I think that he is just easing them in gently. It is exactly the approach that Ferguson used so successfully at United. Give new/young players a few games, gain experience and then drop them for a few games to work on developing their game and to keep the pressure off them.
