Transfer window thread?

That seems like a strange view when he played most of last season there. I'm always up for strengthening the side but I doubt that we will be able to find many CBs, better than Dier, who will be available in January.

There's a lot of talk today that Evans may be available, would be a good option if we're interested and would fit in the squad nicely and free up Dier to play in midfield.

Like fudge he would.

He is a bang average player. At best.

What makes him look good now is the fact he plays in a team set up to defend from the front, defend in solid banks, and kick people to brick before the ball ever gets as far as him.

He isnt a good move for us in the slightest, Id rather make more use of Foyth.

At this point Pochettino will have a very good idea of how good Foyth is and what his potential is. If we made a mistake in signing him, and to be clear I don't think that's the case, fair enough. Move on and find someone else, unless CCV or Tanganga or someone is ready to step up. If however Foyth is highly rated internally then obviously he should be given the chance when ready. And he should be trusted to adapt and improve.

If Foyth is 6-18 months away from being ready I wouldn't be entirely against signing a player to fill that role in the squad. But it shouldn't be someone expensive. A Naybet or Nelson type signing perhaps, if available.

I trust Pochettino and the coaches to make a good decision on that.

Id go with that, Naybet worked wonders for King, and on a short term deal "a Naybet" wouldnt be bad.

Jonny Evans is NOT that player, imo. And at 29 will be looking for regular football and a big contract.

Honestly though, with Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Sanchez, Dier and then Foyth (and Davies/Wanyama in a pinch) - I just dont feel we need a CB anyway.

I like Jonny Evans, cultured defender, but we don't need him, we need a replacement for Dembele for the future,

Subotic can talk to clubs outside of Germany in a few weeks and is on a Bosman in the summer, so one would think he would be available for a small fee.

Good player lot of top European experience, ball playing defender out from the back and has the experience for the Naybet effect.

Would need Poch to change his policy of not really rotating the CBs. Subotic is 29, rather than say 34, so in his prime. Would we leave Sanchez out or rotate CBs?

Will be really quite annoying if Sessegnon goes to United. Especially considering Shaw’s treatment there - how could be possibly be as confident that his career would progress as well there as here?

Get him on the phone with Poch. He'll talk him around. ;)

He’s still more likely to win trophies there and he’ll be paid a lot more. Like most footballers he’ll be confident in his own ability to play and improve wherever he goes.

All teams should be set up to defend from the front.... We certainly are.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to swoop for Ross Barkley and Luke Shaw - EXCLUSIVE
TOTTENHAM boss Mauricio Pochettino is ready to launch a double January transfer swoop for Ross Barkley and Luke Shaw to revive his side’s bid for honours.

Pochettino has seen his Tottenham side slip outside of the top four and is ready to bring in reinforcements when the transfer window opens next week.

He is ready to battle Chelsea for England midfielder Barkley, who is returning to fitness after having surgery on a ruptured hamstring.

Barkley, out of contract in the summer, played in a behind-closed-doors game at Everton’s Finch Farm training ground early last week.

And the 24-year-old, who appears on the wanted list of Arsenal and West Ham as well as the Blues, will be ready for first-team action in time for the transfer window.

Manchester United left-back Shaw is another long-term Pochettino target and has struggled to settle at Old Trafford since his £30million move from Southampton in 2014 - he is also interesting Saudi Sportswashing Machine.

Jose Mourinho will let Shaw leave the club to finance a £25m move for Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon.

Mourinho is keen for more options at left-back and could even move for Tottenham's Danny Rose, but Sessegnon has been heavily linked this week.

Tottenham were also keen on the Fulham ace in the summer until he signed a new contract and could go back in for him again.

Spurs have struggled this season but beat Burnley 3-0 yesterday with Harry Kane scoring a hat-trick.

And Pochettino knows he needs to fine-tune his side if they are to keep pressure on the top four.

Tottenham are fifth but only a point behind Liverpool in fourth and level on points with Arsenal in sixth.

Meanwhile Pochettino has challenged Kane to get even better despite grabbing his 53 goal of 2017 - just one fewer than Lionel Messi with a game more to play.

"He can still improve," he said. "Players arrive at their best at 27, 28, 29.

"It all depends how professional you are. If he keeps working hard every day in training and never changes that mentality, he can play until he wants.

"For me, he can still improve his game."
